View Full Version : do you Agree in RATM - Rage Against the Machine
i think RATM(Rage against the machine)is the one of the bands with most influence on politics today. They say Resist the System. dont let yourself be controled by the rules and bounderies created by the people there starts the Wars. they can mix the powerfull Sound with the even more powerfull lyrics, they have been here for over 12 years, and they are still not dying out, just like there idol CHE. If you dont like the music then you could at least read the texts. I say the got a message

i agree but it hasnt got any competition because its the only big band that have any political motive in its music
1. It doesnt exist anymore.
2. Other 'big bands' with politics: System of a Down, Bad Religion.

It doesn't even make you rebellious. They became part of pop culture ofr a small while.

I heard that Tom Morello (former Rage guitarist) is a Marxist, but I don't know if that is true. I do know that he is a socialist and he went to Harvard. Very interesting.
Does Audioslave have any politics in their music? Tom is their guitarist now.

Tom is an outspoken leftist, and a Harvard graduate.

Also check the audioslave booklet and the new vid, like a stone, he is wearing a Lenin badge (Lenins head with a flame coming from it) I was told when I bought one (before Audioslave came out) it was for the youth in the Soviet Union, about keeping the flame of Socialism alive.
Dead Prez they are the fuckin bomb too

Wow, I didn't know anyone from Rage was actually a commie. I like them alright, more for what they stand for than their music. I'm more into punk and reggae. I love Zack De La Rocha's hip hop stuff though.
Yes NZ, Dead Prez is great, I get the feeling that they have a bit of a grudge against the white race though =)
Crazypete I did know that they wasent together any more.
hey check out there website www.ratm.com it is reeaaly cool, but it dosent get updated very often any more.

Yeah they broke up a while ago, wasn't after the MTV Music Video Awards scenario? There's been a lot of stories that lead to their break-up. The one I heard was that Zack was very disappointed with what Brad did (climbing up a sculpture on stage) when Limp Bizkit got an award, but I don't know.
SOAD is a great political band also. They aren't as head on as Rage was though, in my opinion. But they kick a lot of ass :)

Rage are Communists...at least Tom and Zack anyways...
I saw Tom on the front cover a recent Guitar World magazine and he was wearing a hat (not like a baseball kind) and on this hat was a red star. If you look REALLY close you can see the Hammer and Sickle in the red star, it IS there. Its just not noticable, you kind of had to purposely look to see it. Thats what I did.

I'd say RATM are the flagship socialist band. Everything they do (or did) is political.
Manic Street Preachers certainly are. They played in Cuba a couple of years back so that's a giveaway.
I like the DK's but they are more anarchists than communists.

Sure, Tom Morello is a leftist. Have a look at this photo:

On the DVD "The Battle of Mexico City" of Rage you can even see him with a cap with bold letters: "COMMIE" and he wears a Lenin Shirt. On this DVD he also visites the house where Trotzki lived.

On the DVD titled "The Battle Of Los Angeles" that I own, there is an extra feature that has Tom Morello touring Leon Trotsky's former home in Mexico, and he was wearing a Lenin t-shirt.
Also, on one of his old guitars, he had a big hammer and sickle sticker on it.

well of course Tom and Zack are Commies! They are always talking about the Zapatistas and Black Panthers and Tom always has some kind of Commie Symbol on! ITs quite obvious!

yes, Konstatin Ivanov, Tom and Zack did talk about those groups often and Tom has a Soviet symbol on his hat, and from reading about their personal politics they are pretty much left-leaning but anyone can wear a hammer and sickle and have no clue about communism too

Have any of you guys heard a peom that is put to music by RATM. It's called 'Hadda be Playin on the Jukebox' or 'JFK'. Despite not being written by Rage it outlines many of their political beliefs over Cuba and the american capitalist system etc.

Hadda be playing on a jukebox - yeah I just downloaded it the other day, the constant bassline fuckin rules. It says at the end it is by Allen Ginsberg who also included CHE in one of his ballads.
Red Comrade: You own it do you? Thats nice.
You suggesting TruthAddict that Tom has no idea about Communism? No other person in the limelight would wear commie stuff unless they knew what it meant, apart from the odd loser flashing around Che's face.
I heard a rumour that Tom is in the RCP (marxist-leninist-maoist) (Revo Commie Party) and Zach is more an anarchist or anarchro-socialist.
There was some instance I'm told by a reliable comrade where Tom had Sendero Luminoso on his guitar and some dude asked Zach if Rage support the Shining Path peoples war in Peru and Zach said something along the lines of 'I don't think they will really help the people, you'll have to ask Tom about that"

I was wondering if the group formed by Tom and Serj Tankien from System of a Down (The Axis of Justice) was communistic as System have some left wing ideas in their music or wether it was just set up to help the peolpe of america who were in need.
Any idea?

RATM is probably the most political band that I've ever listened to. Pennywise and the Dead Kennedys are political too. I love RATM's website, they were very devoted to their politics. I bet Zack's in Mexico fighting with the Zapatistas.

I was very skeptical about RATM. I thought they were rubbish, and their songs also (I still think 99% of their songs are rubbish). But after seeing some of their videos, I quite like them.

Nothing Nice to Say is a great site. RATM is great, I'm not big on Audioslave but I think March of Death is pretty good so far.
