Anyway, Cradle of Filth is one of the best metal bands that exists for the moment... I was in the record shop today and I listened to Dark Angel, or whatever it was called, and they were pretty good too;)! Anyway, I forgot to mention TRUST Company in my first post here... It's some type of nu-metal... Really good... I recommend it if you like Deftones or Tool.....

Not sure if these are death metal bands (just got into them really): Killswitch Engage, Dark Tranquility, Abremalin, Dimmu Borgir. Tasty.
I recently got a friend to burn me a copy of a CoF album. I've only listened once so far but my first impression is that they sound like tryhards. Maybe I'm being too critical or something but yeah.
I mainly listen to Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Qotsa and similar stuff.

Ah genres and sub-genres, that tricky ground! One man's grinfcore is another man's screamo, or whatever. Anyway, most genres are pretty vague but I want to know the difference between black and death metal, apparelently it's very subtle, something about chords I'm told.

Good question. Most people have a hard time telling the difference (I do many times too).
Basically, black metal is more ambient than death metal and more emphasis is put on the instrumentation (with the vocals usually towards the background) whereas death metal sound is more concentrated on vocals as it is the precursor to grind. Lyrics in black metal also tend to be darker and not as violent as death metal as well as having a more philosophical and political content (usually in the form of nihilism and/or paganism) but there are many exceptions. Apart from that, their basically the same.

Thanks El Brujo, now I know what I'm talking about, well a bit anyway! Generally I liek to be vague about genres, it's less restrictive, but some things do have set definitions.
