View Full Version : A question about the theory behind the OI rules?

I understand you want a cappie-free space, fair enough, its your board after all (oh wait, if you agree you'll be inadvertantly endorsing property rights ;)) but one thing.

If this is the ONLY place we non-leftists can post, which the heading claims, why is that? You may not want our dangerous opinions in the worker's struggle section or the general one, but how about the off topic ones.

Surely we can discuss music or movies or sport without damaging the leftwing ethos of the board?

Personally, I think it's because even the offtopic subforums might descend into a load of revleft versus OI debate threads. There was a suggestion that OI should have it's own Chit Chat, but this was rejected.

If you ask me, I'd say the owners and administrators are modeling the board format after a communist civilization. The OI is like the gulag.

There really isn't any practical use for the restriction policy. It's just a silly little rule they made up to get them closer to enacting their fantasies of running a communist society. Remember how when you were a kid you would play cops and robbers with your buddies? Well, this is more or less the same thing.

There is a use for the policy, it's because this is a forum for the purpose of left-wing discussions, debates among leftists, etc. Having right-wingers jump into all the discussions would make the board hectic and become a general political forum rather than a leftist forum.

Though I agree that an OI chit chat would be a decent idea.

You are riffing off my old joke that RevLeft is modeled after a decadent poster state.

But your point is well taken. Really bad nasties are banished in a heart beat --the good "baddies" are kept in the Gulag--just because those in power can. But Robert the Great, me, Spet, Hayvermill, others, really don't pose any threat to the sancitity RevLeft--hey, I just had a CCer COMPLAIN to me that I was TOO freakin' NICE.

Maybe it's time that you CCers adjust the rules a bit--there are occasional conversations in RevLeft that I and other honest desenters might add worthwhile commentary.

Give us a chance. Stop the Stalinist thingie and take us on a case by case basis. It's the only really Communist thing to do.

You should probably fuck off then, no one really wants you here anyway.

I think I missed that joke.

Hamster and Pickle is right in theory, but in practice, the forums would be no less hectic than they already are even with fifty percent of the posters as right-wingers.

Of course I have no problem with a site that has a restriction policy. That is the owner's right. I just chuckle at the thought that they really believe it makes a difference.

I know this has probably already been said, but this is a leftist forum intended for leftist discussion. If you want to discuss things with people of all ideologies there's plenty of other boards out there for that.

There are a handful of posters here I enjoy reading. The rest of you are invalid zeros. Until those posters that I admire stop posting, or I get banned, I'll be around.

No offence but I think without us all you would do is sit around all day agreeing with each other, and then taking debates to such a microscopic level as to ensure you can have a disagreement about something.

There must be some common, binding belief that seperates the 'leftists' here from those who are restricted.

Okay, I just thought that over and you're probably right that they wouldn't be more hectic. But nonetheless, this is a forum dedicated to left-wing discussion, not general political discussion involving both rightists and leftists.

I didn't make it. I don't want it. I'd rather you were all banned.

I was also referring to that specific twat who was moaning about us being evil commies. I'll reiterate, if thats what you think, you should fuck off.

I'd prefer not to be included in this "us", since I identify in no way to capitalists, libertarians or conservatives.

By us I meant those who were restricted, truthfully I cannot fathom the criteria for being restricted.

Relax, lad. Communists are not "evil". A little naive, but surely not evil.

Try reading the board rules then maybe, its usually a good place to start if you want to find the board rules.

Oh really.

Out of interest, why is your opinion about who should be restricted less valid than whoever bought this space? I'd like any communist out there to answer that.

I'm at a coffee shop drinking a mocha and waiting for an important email. Meanwhile, I figured I'd poke you with a stick.

But the commies here love me, man. I'm from the old school. I was posting here when you were still reading comic books.

Case closed, if you are "dissapointed" of feeling oppressed by the evil adminz, the dooe is open to go away.

I would like to add to Fuserg9's post that Revleft has once, for a long time ago, actually tried letting the restricted into Chit Chat -- and the experiment was a 'miserable failure' according to those that were around then. Moreover, the idea of an OI chat forum has come up many times since then, and been either shot down by the CC or vetoed by the board owner every time -- your idea isn't new, it has simply been rejected.

However back in the day, not that long ago actually, no non-serious or off-topic discussion was allowed in the OI at all. Back then, all such posts were trashed and restricted members that kept making them were issued warnings and finally banned if they wouldn't change their ways.

Since then, we have made the Reactionary chatter threads, which provide a 'valve' for non-political talk and 'chatter'. Now we instead of trashing all non-serious posts often merge the better ones there instead.

But that is really as far as we are going to go to satisfy the needs of our opponents. I advice you to be happy with and accept what you have, we could always go back to the old system if there is too much whining and we tire of it.
