I've got a feeling that everybody just listens to RATM, and punk; doesn't anybody have any other favorite band? Something out of the ordinary?....

My favorite band is Bad Religion!

Yah bad religion isn't "out of the ordinary" if everybody here listens to punk and then rage on top of it.

But I listen to a lot of straight-edge and hardcore bands that sing about the earth, sxe, left wing politics, and the animals and shit:

Earth Crisis, capitalist casualties, boy sets fire, SS Decontrol, one king down, minor threat, good riddance, American Nightmare ,Youth of today, antischism, etc..

kidicarus20

Bad religion have an awesome article on their site that suggests that uniting in person is so much better than uniting through "email" protests, ie it's better to show up to anti-war protests than to send an email.

It's an awesome article, this struck me though:
Ultimately, social change comes from an emotionally based behavior pattern. The reason people change in unison is because we are united by a similar emotional response. We are not moved to change the laws if we don't have an emotional experience that connects us to the political issue. For instance, those who have experienced a loved-one suffering in pain on their death-bed are deeply motivated to change the laws regarding doctor-assisted suicide because of the intense similarity of their emotional response to their dying loved-one. Or further, those who have experienced discrimination, or racism, or poverty, have an emotional connection to one another, and consequently, are deeply motivated to change the social conditions."

I get so tired of republicans and shit saying "left-wingers only base their rhetoric on emotion" now i got something to say back

I just bought the donna's album. DO NOT buy it. its good for a couple of laughs, but thats it.

last month I bought the new MINISTRY and the new QUEENS of the stone age. both are really good

unfortunately, I really ever only want to listen to rage. so new albums I buy get listened to two or three times and then I pop rage back in my player

the radio is good too

as long as it is guerrilla radio - TURN THAT SHIT UP!

Ya Bazza, Angelic Upstarts, the Specials and The Selecter are some of my favorite bands of all time.

I kind of find it wierd how most of the leftists on this board listen to such mainstream music. Metallica, Pantera, the Chili Peppers. I like alot of mainstream type stuff too, but almost all of my favorite bands are lesser known types. I'm not criticizing you guys or saying I'm superior, I just thought it was odd.

Brian rocks.

They are a really great rock band, with great political lyrics. And the thing that makes them better than most other bands is they have some really great guitar music. I suggest you go down to the shops and buy there greatest hits album or download some songs, I will make a list of some of my personal favourates.

masses against the classes
A design for life

Even though a lot of people have already said it, I want to get it off my chest.....bad religion were punk. And I didn't make a passed participle mistake. I like a lot of punk music....one of my top favorite bands would be Union 13, even though I can not find their albums anywhere here in the NW. But what I've heard I am in love with. The Specials are one of the most kick ass bands. I love Bob....and I listen to Rage a lot.....as well as some other stuff to liven up the mix. I gotta say A Tribe Called Quest is awesome and I like the Wu-Tang Clan a lot too.

the problem i have with a lot of bands is that they limit themselves so much when it comes to exploring music.

just look at marilyn manson: he thinks he is so unconventional, yet his music is as mainstream and as accessible as britney spears. same with RATM, the music is so 'normal' that you can play it at a party and everybody dances to it without even caring about the lyrics. :-/

That is one thing that placebo cannot be accused of. Being main-stream their syle changes loads, it changes loads within single albums, from slow sad music to hard core rock. And the lyrics are really good as well.

LOL... I wasn't attacking them in particular. :-D
Actually I tend to like them and a lot of other fairly mainstream bands (NIN, Leonard Cohen), but it is a shame that it often is so hard to find something REALLY different from what is usually played anywhere.

Yeah thats true...I kinda forgot...I get it mixed up, cuz I automatically think of good producing or arrangement of music...cuz it makes or breaks a song...mah bad

Paul Oakenfold WTf?
Whats wrong with Oaky?! He's great....I've been listening to him for quite a bit...then again I like almost any kind of music so *shrug* whatever anyone thinks is lame, I'm bumpin lol

I found it kind of surprising (unless I missed someone) but no one mentioned One Minute Silence. Great anarchist metal band, human equality isone of their main issues. I'm in the states and still know of them and think they are excellent.

If you look at the sn, I'm sure you can guess what one of my favorite bands is.

Other good stuff incudes

X Japan
and "hide" singles (the lead guitar from the above band)
a few Jrock bands, Merry, Dir en Grey, Glay
Mindless Self Indulgence
Ultraspank
Pro-Pain
NOFX
Reveille
Eve6

I seem to be looking in slightly different places for music than you folks...

The songs I've heard from Audioslave (Cochise, Show Me How to Live, Like a Stone, Gasoline) are all excellent. If I ever heard the whole CD I'm sure I could make a better choice.

Though I'm not sure they are up to par with RATM, just my preference. At least both of the singers let the real talent of their bands have its day (most of the time).

you cant think of them as RATM featuring Chris Cornell, its a whole new band not a new version of Soundgarden or RATM. In my opinion Zach leaving was the best thing to happen to Brad, Tim, and Tom. Chris Cornell's lyrics may not be political but they have a really deep meaning same was with the other bands he was with.

Agreed senior, though I do admit I find it quite hard to do so.

I'll have to challenge you there, RATM is some of the best music I've ever heard.

But in another way you may be right, the other members did voice off an increasing friction between them and Zack, and that cant be good for music, as was shown through the decreasing talent of their albums. I suppose if there was another downturn like the one from "Los Angeles" to "Renegades," I would probably have to agree with you.

As for Cornell lyrics, I think you are quite right, though almost nothing packs the punch (for me anyway) as a timely and true political message.

Dude, prince is great. His music is so complicated, yet simple.
I can't beleive you like Linkin Park and Rammstein, blech, that stuff is shit.

Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Sepultura, Social Distortion, TSOL, Dead Milkmen, Dead Kennedys, The Ghost(new band, they're great), Crass, The Damned, Anti-Flag, any kind of Zydeco Jazz(The acordian is great), Clasical, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Queen, Reagan Youth, Agent Orange, U2, Zounds, Voltaire(gotta love the Violin), Jethro Tull(yay for the flute), this list could never end. Those are all great bands. Rage sucks my balls compared to them.

Anybody know a punk band that has a violin in it? I think that would sound so sweet, I know the Adicts had some violin stuff in their songs, but they're too slow. Hardcore, and then a violin in the background, that would be awesome. If not, I need to learn to play the violin.

Correct..... But I don't think that would be appropiate for an album's name!
