Can anyone reccomend me any good reggae other than Bob Marley?

Yes, I can recommend you ten thousand tunes of an excellent nature. Check out this thread (http://www.che-lives.com/cgi/community/topic.pl?forum=16&topic=981) for a link to an Augustus Pablo site, where you can download many, many samples of his work.

You should also check out the king of the cover version, and a man woh was more popular than Bob in the Jamaican dancehalls during the seventies, Johnny Clarke. (Songs: "None Shall Escape the Judgement", "Live Up Jah Man", "Move Out of Babylon")

Jacob Miller has a nice enough commercial sounding vibe going on, and it might be a nice point of entry as an introduction to roots reggae. Also check out his album, "Who Say Jah No Dread" (produced by Pablo, for a not so commercial sound). (Songs: "Shaky Girl", "Baby I Love You So", "Forward Jah Children")

Big Youth was one of the first DJs to have big success in Jamaica, and is a living legend. (Songs: "Ace 90 Skank", "Screaming Target", "Marcus Garvey Dread")

There's probably not too much point in me getting carried away here...but check out some of these similar threads:

Ya, Johnny Clarke is amazing. What was his beef with Jacob Miller anyway ? He's always calling him a fake rasta and all kinds of other stuff.

If you're talking about roots reggae (as opposed to ska) I would say Burning Spear, the Abbisynians, the Mighty Diamonds, the Ethiopians later stuff, and Johnny Osbourne.

I think a lot of people had some problems with Jacob Miller, he was a somewhat... colourful character ;)

I think his Christmas Album says it best...

"Deck the halls with cali weeeed.... falalalala-falalala"

I am NOT kidding,

I don't know about always, but there is that one bit at the start of "Don't Trouble Trouble", are there other examples?

Jacob Miller (and the rest of the Inner Circle band) were always strictly an uptown thing. They all came from more affluent backgrounds, so were viewed with some scepticism, I guess, by the true "sufferahs". Apparently they also lost a lot of respect from the fans inna Inglan for these heinous crime. Third World were similarily treated.

Wasn't Jacob Miller hit by a train or some weird shit like that? I seem to recall an unusual death...

You are right, Cani, Pablo kicks ass.

Yeah, it was a carcrash, Dhul. I don't think there is any train service in Jamaica. Which is odd considering all the train songs -

The Wailers - Stop that Train
The Wailers - This Train
Keith and Tex - Stop that Train
Ken Boothe - The Train is Coming
Lee Perry and Jimmy Riley - Rasta Train
Big Youth - Train to Rhodesia
Dennis Brown - Westbound Train
Bob Marley and the Wailers - Zion Train
Ernest Wilson - Freedom Train
Junior Murvin - Roots train
Linval Thompson - Train to Zion

Well, anyway, don't mind me.

Did you get your hands on some Pablo tunes, Rastafari?
What songs?

Don't forget Desmond Dekker's "Rude Boy Train".

Rude Boy Train is coming down
Rude Boy Train is coming down
Dibby Dibby Doo
Dibby Dibby Doooooo

That song kicks ass

Speaking of Desmond Dekker, the 2 disc anthology on Trojan Records is highly recommended.

I am listening to a disc right now called...
