Hello,

My name is James, I'm 22, and I'm from the Texarkana area in North East Texas. I come from a mostly Polish background, and have quite a lot of Polish pride.

I would describe myself as Socialist with a highly Environmentalist slant. I used to consider myself a progressive Democrat, but have since decided that they as well are entirely too pro-capitalist.

Honestly I'm not sure which form of Socialism I identify with the most. I find Social Democrats to be too soft, and it seems to me that most models of Communism that have been used in real time have violated what I would consider basic human rights.

The "leftist" scene in my area pretty much doesn't exist. I suppose that comes with living in an area where every vehicle you see has a "McCain/Palin" sticker plastered on the bumper.

I'm young and still determining for sure what I believe, I'm sure I can learn a lot from people here much wiser and well read than I. I look forward to learning.

James

Hi James, welcome! :)
I guess living as leftist in Texas is about that shitty (if not even worse) as living as leftists in Bavaria. I feel with you. ;)

I really just meant in a cultural kind of way. You know, food...art...

Growing up on my grandmother's (who was Polish obviously) cooking and language made it hard not to have a sense of it. I wish I had a dollar for every pierogi I ate haha

Although...I'm sure she probably wouldn't agree with my Socialist points of view. Sadly.

Welcome. :)

btw, there's another member here from Texas who has Polish Heritage you might identify with. If you see Polish Soviet around, that's him.

Well, I don't know how big you are on cooking, but they're not too entirely difficult to make, I could send you a recipe. :D

I learned how to make a few traditional Slavic dishes before my Grandmother passed away. While not specifically a Polish food, I can make a mean Stroganoff.
