I'm gonna see Lou frikking Reed on Monday (that's a bank holiday here). Lou Reed of the Velvet Underground, contemporary of Andy Warhol and David Bowie, founding father of art rock, glam icon, composer of Transformer - one of the bestest albums in the whole wide world. Can't freakin wait

From the venue's website:
“Lou Reed will be playing and re-examining everything from Velvet Underground “old favorites” to new pieces from The Raven. He will be exploring lesser know songs as well. He intends to perform an intimate evening of words, music and poetry through the prism of his guitar , the bass and vocals of Fernando Saunders , the electric cello of Jane Scarpantoni, the midi Ztar of M. Rathke and the lyricism of singer Antony. Martial Artist Master Ren Guang-yi will also be in attendance demonstrating weapon forms. An evening of electronics and poetics. The Rock N’ Roll Animal hopes to enter the mind and heart of his audience for a 90 minute festival of sound. The Word Will Be Heard in the Night of the Lyric- The Night of The Raven. "

I'll give you losers a full report

Pah! He's more alive than you'll ever be, dammit! Oh boy and how he does rock.
There were a few Velvet Underground classics - Sweet Jane, Venus In Furs, All Tommorrow's Parties, Sunday Morning.
"I'm mostly gonna play songs that you don't know but I really like - that's why we're here." said the man, which he did.
There was nothing from Transformer (except Perfect Day as an encore), but, God, the man can rock. All Tommorrow's Parties was unbelievable, blew my fucking mind, with the cello abandoning sanity and synchronising your pulse to its frenzy, and the man standing with white light shining through his hair like a flying saucer come to earth to rock our faces off. But the best bit was The Raven. "This is The Raven, a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, but I've rewritten it so it's better." I thought that was just a joke, but it's fuckin' true. The Raven is one of my fave poemsof all time, but the man's version blew my mind (again). He had the guitar and the cello rockin' and twitchin' and I had expected him to just read Poe's poem, but after the first verse he started going into his own version, which was updated, unfastidious and more explicit with the drug references compared to the original.
He changed "the night's Plutonian shore" to "the smoke-filled bottle shore" and
"that god we both adore" to "that God we both ignore" and
Then methought the air grew denser
perfumed from an unseen censer
swung by seraphim whose footfalls tinkled on the tufted floor
to
Then I thought the air grew denser
Perfumed froom unseen incense
As though accepting angel intrusion
who, with my unknown collusion,
made there way across the carpet floor"
(meh, close enough)

What was the concert like, how many people?

I hate you, he is my favorite rock-poet of all time. Along with Dylan and Zevon.

Jesus Christ! I would give anything to see lou reed perform music from velvet underground. Although i heard lou reed was a complete asshole. If you liked velvet underground though you should listen to the stuff john cale did after the band broke up. Its REALLY good!
