"I know!?"
That better be a mistake, Cani, or you just lost some respect :)

This thread is really stupid. I'm going to edit out that ridiculous list. It's all the reggae I have (or had, I've gotten a few more since).
"I Know", man, that's a terrible song (you're talking about the Bob Marley version?). So shit.
I remeber I had that album on a while ago, and I'd never really thought about it before, but when that song came on it just hit me, how ridiculously out of character it was. So pathetic.
I started a thread on the audiogalaxy board a long time ago saying how crap it was and a lot of people actually said they thought it was good.
I haven't listened to any of those Island albums in ages.

One of my friends, who is much more reggae knowlegable than myself, is one who likes the song.
"It has a good baseline," he says. "All of them have good bass lines, dumbas," I replied.
Is there a version besides Bob Marley? As far as I'm concerned, it is a blemish on his career and nearly turned me off of him, but I have recovered :)

Oh, I don't think there's another version. It was a pointless question to break the awkward silence.
Have you ever heard (of) the album, Dub Marley?
It was recorded during the "Rastaman Vibration" sessions and comprises of dub and instrumental versions to a 8 of the Island-era tunes, and two others, "Guava Jelly" and "Soul Rebel". The instrumentals are led by the guitar of Lloyd Willis.
Here (http://www.mostwanted-online.nl/sheets/dubmarley.htm)
I'd like to get my hands on it. I've heard one, the instrumental of Roadblock, and it's pretty cool. Augustus Pablo did an even better version.
Have you got an Pablo stuff?
How about the Gladiators? Seemingly, Albert Griffiths (the lead singer) was approached circa 1981-ish. To record some songs and put Bob Marley's name on them. He turned them down (or did he? :wink ).
I read it in an interview somewhere on the 'net. If you want, do a search for it, I think the interview was with Carter van Pelt, which would help. I don't have the time for such messing around right now though.

I think I have heard of Pablo.
The dub marley looks interesting, I'll add it to my unatianable list next to the Pittsburg concert disc and some other stuff...
You know, I never really like Guava Jelly too much. Its still better than most shit around though

You [i]think[/i you've heard of Pablo? What a disgrace. you have to get some Pablo songs going on.
Actually, the song "Burialicious" at my site is a remix of a Pablo song, which is a cover of the Peter Tosh song, Burial.
Check out this site (http://www.xs4all.nl/~entiti/index.html) for plaenty of Augustus Pablo information, you can listen to a lot of 30 second clips from his songs and see what you think.
There's also a downloadable song there, it's labelled as Arise by Hugh Mundell, but I listened to it and it was "Ace 90 Skank" by Big Youth (who I have quoted in my sig (and it's not to bolster my masculinity  )).
Ace 90 Skank is one of the most famous DJ records of all time.
You know, I never really like Guava Jelly too much. Its still better than most shit around though
Hee, hee, you know what that song's about? Listen to the lyrics again and use your imagination.
I think it's pretty good, but I far prefer all his older stuff.

Yeah, Pablo sounds good from the 3 samples I heard. I once saw Barb Striessand, media slut that she is, cover Guava Jelly. It made me sick in more ways than one :(

Augustus Pablo - King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown
An absolutely essential album for any reggae lover.
Well, I grabbed some 10" vinyl while out and about yesterday, so I am a happy camper.

By the way, I went to see The Arsenals (an incredible local ska/reggae band) last weekend. They performed a stellar rendition of Junior Murvin's "Police and Thieves," introducing it by saying: "This one goes out to the citizens of Iraq."

Junior Murvin's "Police and Thieves," introducing it by saying: "This one goes out to the citizens of Iraq."
Sounds cool. Did the vocalist manage to pull off the high notes?
I've been listening to a lot of Murvin recently (well, today). Just after listening to these songs:
Junior Murvin - Police and Thieves
Philistines on the Land
Bad Weed
Glen DaCosta - Magic Touch
The Upsetters - Dub of Justice, Babylon Thief Dub, (Chinna - Lead Guitar) Bingo Kid, Grumblin' Dub
Jah Lion - Soldier and Police War
Is there any other versions on that rhythm you'd recommend, reggaetrain?
(I think Bad Weed was my first discovery of another version, although I didn't really realise it at the time, I just thought they were really similar).

Yeah, actually he had a perfect voice for that particular song.

Respect. Glad to be back around the boards again. I am super excited right now because I got some cool vinyl today. Derrick Morgan's "Judge Dread In Court" on 45. Woohoo :)
