#Moderation Mode
My view is that this thread is of a musical nature. What is yours?
I saw him in "Bowling for Columbine", and as far as I recall, I agreed very strongly with what he said. Other than that, I haven't a clue.

I think he is... grotesque.
But that's what he wants isn't it? I think that it can be somewhat cool the way he acts. But he tries to hard, so in that way it isn't cool at all...
I'm very convinced that he is phony... The whole satanistic thing! I don't believe it...

He's a really interesting guy. Before he was all persona, but I think we're seeing a little more of him now. I heard him co-presenting the Radio 1 Rock Show the other week which was fascinating and I really like his new stuff, even if Twiggy is no longer in the band.
Marylin Manson says he's neither left nor right, he tries to expose the flaws in both sides and right now he's concentrating on the right because that is what is causing the shit right now. Fair enough I guess.

Satanistic thing? Are you talking about his honorary membership with the Church of Satan, a misconception you hold or Antichrist Superstar? By misconception, I mean do you view him as a "satan-worshipper" or something similar?
Go here for quotes on what that album (Antichrist Superstar) meant to Manson at the time:

He was made a preist in the church of Satan, I saw it on his biography.
I think he is a very very smart man. People think he's nuts and what not, but I just think that he knows how to succeed. He knew that if he did shocking things, he would get attention, and thus, sell records. Which is his ultimate goal, I believe.
However, one of his tracks is named "Rock and Roll Nigger." I've never listened to the song, but racial slurs have never, ever, been on my good side. Aside from that, he seems cool.

Contrarily, he speaks strongly on his intent, not to shock, but to virtually "wake up" the minds of the worker ant minds of the US. To incite and entice intelligence and get people to think. The image began as Marilyn Manson and The Spooky Kids, a band formed to challenge censorship.
Rock'n'roll nigger, furthermore, is not racist. The song was originally written a couple of decades ago by Patti Smith. Marilyn's interpretation of the song is as a "we're all outcasts" type of thing I believe.

BTW, the Church of Satan he was honorarily inducted into is not the worship of a Satan figure. The Church of Satan, in the US, founded by Anton Szandor LaVey, promotes extreme individualism and a "worship of self". I am god. Everyone is a god. etc.

If that's the case, then that has to be one of the most misleading names ever. It's clearly the church of Satan, I mean, come on!
heh, I take it your a Manson fan. Personally, I think the coolest thing about MM is his affiliation with Trent Reznor. Reznor is the man =D
Personally I like Andy Kaufmann better than MM. The photos with the Mickey Mouse ears are awesome, though. :)

If that was a joke, I don't get it.
What joke? I think Andy was way more creative and a lot better at forcing people to reconsider their values.
And the Manson-Mouse pictures ARE awesome.

I didn't know he was attempting to do that. I watched that Man on the Moon or whatever it's called movie last year and enjoyed it. Explain your point of view in regards to Manson's lack of creativity. I mean he's painting, writing music and beginning to get involved in film. Or do you mean creativity on another level?
I meant creative regarding the ways in which he worked and the rules he went by. Manson is a more conventional, I think, when it comes to entertainment, which is not necessarily bad, but I do get tired of him every once in a while.
(I'll still buy the new album, though... when does it come out again? monday?)

He sings mostly about the american society and everything thats fucked in the modern world;
"Your world was killing me
Your world was killing me
Disassociative
Your world was killing me
Your world was killing me
Disassociative"
even dough this really isnt the best example from his songs, but its the song im listening to right now... anyway; how could you hate a guy who says "kill your god" 50 times a second, and its still cool?.....
and yes; it is cool!
im going to a concert with him soon and after what i have heard from others he is rare good... even dough he's totally strange and everything, but that just matches my black and spikey apperance....
When I was talking about 'conventional' I meant his approach to music, or at least the stuff he is releasing: It is usually not a lot different from good old 'traditional' rock/pop music.
I mean, there are Britney Spears Fans I know, who really like MM. :) They can't be all that different in all regards...

Yes, on one level you could call the music conventional. Marilyn Manson serves as so much more than a band, or in the past anyway, as an advocate of free speech, individualism and nietzschean philosophy. He is an important influence on the fucked western society.
Listen to Fight Song by Marilyn Manson and you will see he is not a Satanist, he is an atheist! YAY!

Possibly. But if you believe that you are god (and everyone is their own god) are you an atheist? What label would you pass upon Friedrich Nietzsche?
i just got the album today.. the limited edition including the bonus dvd. :-)

That my friend would make you a Satanist and possibily a humanist, but I'm not exactly sure of what humanism is, so I might be wrong.

Yes, possibly. I recently had a discussion with a friend of mine on philosophy - specifically related to Nietzsche, Satanism and Marilyn Manson. He claimed to have read the Satanic Bible and believed it to be a ripoff of a mixture of Nietzsche and Ayn Rand.

Believing that everyone is "god" is the same as believing that there is no higher power (a god) - which is atheism. If everyone is a "god", then there is no higher power (like Yahweh in the Old Testament), therefore man is the most powerful being in the known universe. Its all atheism.
