I've been an avid rap fan for a while, but I've heard of Dead Prez alot, but not acutally knowing anything about them. They are rap right? I even went to the official site, but it told me nothing. Can someone enlighten me?
The official site by Sony doesn't say anything. Their are good message boards at Dp.net.
The lowdown is that Dead Prez is two people. M-1 and Stic.man. They are extremely political rap, and all that jazz.

dead prez are a political hip hop group... there roots are socialist but these days there losing there heart. the talk alot about i-ching. not sure what that is... hey kick ass though.
I-Ching is some ancient Chinese "writting" system, that was used in Sun Tzu's "The Art of War". The DP symbol is I-Ching and it means "Peoples Army".

"Let's Get Free" is easily one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever written. It's just that the audience isn't always sophisticated enough to understand fully what dead prez are saying. "They Schools" is awesome. One of my favourite written songs ever.
Incidently, you should always write dead prez with all lower case letters. Hay, don't ask me why, just read an interview in the Source where they said they always wanted to use lower case letters!

Does anyone know where Dead Prez's "liberated territory in the hood" is?

Anyone else notice that at the end of "They Schools", dude says "know what I'm saying" about a dozen times.
It's intresting about the lower case letters. bell hooks always has her name written in lower case on her books. I've never found out why, I could imagine it has to do with conformity to the system and other things.
I think the "liberated territory in the hood" means to have the hood liberated from cops who act like an occuping army. It also may mean to end the explotation that is going on there too, i.e. most businesses not being owned by people who live in that area.

Yeah baut I heard in a song on the mixtape talking like they have one I was just wondering where it might be for conversation's sake.
