together i think they were lyrical masterminds, the songs they wrote will never be forgotten and despite their records being broken by bands like hearsay and westlife they will always be the best band ever.

but who was best?

i think paul fed off john when it comes to inspiration, when they parted john wrote far better material. dont get me wrong i think paul wrote some great songs after they split but i think he needed john's creativity. while john wrote songs like imagine, paul had mull of kyntire.

i think john was the better song writer

It's very very simple. What happened AFTER they split up?

Paul - joined Wings, wrote "Hope of Deliverance" and made a silly video in the woods.

John - wrote "Imagine", "Working Class Hero", "Instant Karma", etc.

Not difficult for me ;)

As I stated on my "Were the Beatles communists?" post, it appears that John was a communist and Paul was a capitalist. However to be honest I don't really care for either of them. Paul's music is just too saccahrine and John was just too obnoxious and hypocritical. And Yoko made Linda sound good.

However, since the question is "Better Musician" and not "Better Person Morally", it goes to Lennon immediatly because he was essentially the brains behind much of the band (with the assistance of George Martin and Brian Epstein) and had the most diverse abilities.

This is how BANG magazine rate albums.

1 star = A Ringo
2 stars = Harrison
3 stars = McCartney
4 stars = Lennon
5 stars = Lennon/McCartney

Lennon was easily the best Beatle for me, and McCartney... just too much of a cappie for me.

John is #1 for me, but actually I think Ringo is #2

For some reason I love all the songs he sings in

Harrison was the best musician. Even Eric Clapton once acknowledged his abilities.

Ringo....a laughable drummer.

As far as the Beatles go.....they were the Back Street Boys of their generation.

With all the problems in the world then, war in Vietnam, Civil Rights marches, I can't really think of any great contribution they made to the "movement". Where were the anti-war songs? Where were the pro civil rights songs? What about Woodstock?

The closest thing that I can see is Lennon's "Imagine" which I love.

Fuck Paul McCartney and his pro America tour last year. With the big fucking American flag backdrop on his stage set up. He's as irrelevant now as he's ever been. Shit bass player too.

And has anyone noticed how Paul McCartney looks more and more like the actress Angela Lansbury with each passing year?

Sorry...not a big Beatles fan...can you tell?
