Does anyone know if conditioner removes hair dye at all? My hair is purple, and I only shampoo once every two or three days, but I use spiking glue which I rinse out every night, which takes a really long time, so I'm wondering if I used conditioner every night to help get the glue out if it would have any effect on the vividness of the hair color.

No i shouldn't do, no more than washing it with just water would do, shampoo is much more effective at stripping dye out of hair :)

I thought conditioner closed the pores in your hair?

I've always used conditioner when dying my hair because it makes it soft and it seems to make it last longer.

When you think how many women have dyed hair and how many have long hair too, I think that says it all really. Unless you like pulling great big clumps of your hair out with a brush every time you've taken a shower, conditioning is pretty much essential if you have long hair and especially if it's been dyed, because that dries it out and makes it even weaker and more likely to knot.

So, anyway, as proved by the millions of women out there, conditioning should not have any negative effect on your hair dye. Washing your hair however can sometimes cause it to dull a bit, although some more expensive shampoos and conditioners do have something in them to keep your colour nice and bright.

Yeah, I only shampoo my hair once every few days, and I put some of my dye in the shampoo to lessen the dulling effects of it. The dye I use is semi-permanent though, which is why it comes out a lot easier than most of the dyes that I'm assuming the women you're referring to use.

Yikes!! Be careful that doesnt drip into your eyes. Peroxide to the eyeball is something you wouldnt forget quickly.

I think it varies from person to person about whether they choose permanent or semi-permanent. In hindsight, I should have gone semi-permanent when I dyed my hair last year because I've not been able to afford to redo it and I've now got 10 inch long roots >.>
I should chop it off tbh and be done with it.

So is that why my hair comes out in clumps, it's dried up? I thought I would point out that I do have dye in my hair too.

Well, dry hair is brittle and more likely to break. With no using conditioner your hair will be knottier too, so you'll probably break a lot of hairs when brushing it. What do you mean by clumps though?

Oh, I always use conditioner. Without it, it's nearly impossible to brush my hair because it's so fine. About the clumps, it's not really clumps. When I run my hands through my hair a bunch comes out onto my hands. Same thing happens when I brush. It comes out on my brush.

That doesnt sound good at all really. Maybe you should go to the doctor's to just get it checked out.

My hair is currently dyed purple, though I'm changing it to blue either tomorrow or the next day, and I'm almost positive that they don't offer permanent dyes in the more "extreme" or unnatural colors, I think it's only semi.
