I gather from the lack of threads on this that there aren't too many tennis fans here?

I have supported three players in particular in the men's singles tournament, in reverse order of preference, Lleyton Hewitt, Andy Murray and ye olde Roger.
Hewitt pretty much because he was the lesser evil vs. Roddick, Andy Murray out of some weird media induced 'patriotism' and the Rog because he is iNcReD.
And look! I have spent almost 8 painful hours stuck infront of the television watching my first two get beaten by the player whom I have always specifically disliked. The smug, whiny bastard Andy Roddick.
Now is going to play Roger Federer, the glorious god of Switzerland. But perhaps I am jinxing it even by supporting Federer in the first place! I blame myself.
But yeah, immediate post-match grumblies. God damn it!

I'm glad Murray was beaten, though I don't really think it makes a difference. Even if he had beaten Roddick, I couldn't have seen him getting past Federer in the final.

Why :p Roddick isn't so much better, it wasn't like he entirely outplayed him.

True true, no one beats Federer.

Can't believe the Serenas are against each other again as well, I bet both of them could beat idiot Federer.

Interesting, wasn't Fred Perry a working-class guy from Stockport? In fact, wasn't he pretty sympathetic to socialism too?

You could probably say the same about golf and even football if you wanted, probably you could say that about all sports, after all.. look how much money goes through them and how much footballers get paid. In the end of the day they are just sports.

That's funny because I know quite a lot of working-class people who definitely don't annoy the fuck out of me who appreciate it, granted they don't go there every year, but they'll happily watch a couple of matches.

Tennis is reactionary!

Nothing against Murray really. I just hate the media hype and expectation that surrounds British players every time they enter tournaments.

Really? It was pretty much hilarious to me. The Dead Ringers sketches with that cult-like bunch of fans following Tim Henman around wherever he goes (to bed, the shops, while he's shaving) was fantastic, all with their faces painted with the England flag, it summed it up perfectly (constantly shouting "COME ON TIM! YOU CAN DO IT!").

I feel sorry for those kinds of fans more than anything.

Im not a fan of tennis, but i pretty much like it(thats a surprise:lol:).But wimbledon is been broadcast by paid tv, so i havent followed it at all.I most like Nadal tbh, always fan of strength and speed in sports and he is an excellent example of it, but then is Federer too, that you cant hate him ir dislike him i dont know why, but yeah i hope Federer gets it(which is probably the best tennis player ever) than that jackass, roddick!
In women once again, the sister williams at the final, i think its getting boring after some times!

I mean fuck's sake, he's trying so damn hard and has come back from sets down, he beat Murray in a fair game playing really well.

Why all the Andy Roddick hate? He's done himself the world of good in this tournament. Considerably up'd his game and came so close to winning. Plus, people love an underdog

Still, I don't think this final was a classic on par with last year. The only reason it took so damn long was the difficulty in breaking serve and Federer made some very uncharacteristic errors

felt really sorry for Roddick. I was watching it in france and i got bored because it last so long and jumped in the swimming pool instead. To my horror the match was still going on when i got back.
