I was wondering because I heard a debate among communists about this. One did make a good point that it could add more hours to the day and make rationing easier. What do you all think?

What a silly question.

should it be developed sure why not its great for use in a disaster struck region where food is very hard to get.

do i want to eat it day after day hell no i like to spend time on eating a delicious meal and i also like to make those meals so i would not like to eat a pill.

i suppose it could also be useful for a diet for weight or health reasons but i doubt anyone could keep that up.

Food in pill form would be handy for disasters as Piet11111 said, but also for stuff like space travel, hiking and camping, and other situtations where weight is at a premium.

But for everyday consumption? That would definately become boring and would probably provide indadequate roughage.

In the future, it should be available. Now? I'd say I don't like the idea. I can just see the employers removing lunch breaks. You can just take a food pill! You don't need a break anymore.

I'd argue that a lunch break involves more than simply an injection of sustenance. There may be psychological benefits to be being able to stop work and take time to eat. I certainly wouldn't let them force me to have pills instead of a proper meal, and I doubt anyone else would either. Besides, the food and drink companies would hate it.

I said others because I choke on pills. But in a food bar form I would like it.

I would hate this, unless used for emergencies only. Honestly, good grief. There's no reason to replace food, RevLeft.

Some survival food already (http://www.nitro-pak.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_170&products_id=556) comes in pill form. But I would be all for having this option developed further. And also that food safety and preperedness be taken more seriously.

Yes even chocolate wrappers should be in pill form.

I like science fiction, but a lot of the bunk about food in pills, is well, bunk. Silly. Ignorant. As mentioned above, pills can’t provide all that real food provides. It can’t give you fiber, nor, probably (unless you eat a stack) enough protein, fat or carbs.

It would only be able to provide essential minerals and vitamins, which often already come in pill form.

Moreover, it doesn’t exactly give you a sense of feeling satisfied does it?

It would be good in disaster situations, but that's it. I like flavor and texture in my meals as well as having my meals take longer then 2 seconds to eat.

So I voted "other".

I rather enjoy eating food...though pill food would be handy in many situations, as mentioned previously :D

pill form is a bit unimaginative tho. perhaps we should consider more novelty forms, such as cone hats

If it was heated in the manufacturing process it would loose important enzymes to digest it properly, and have it very useful to the body. They would have to add enzymes to it.

Could be handy in emergencies, space travel and the like.

in communist society food will be provided by infants grown in vats genetically engineered to be fully nutritious and also brainless (so it's humane)

what a great idea

The first concern of a communist society is meeting everyone's needs. Once everyone is fed, then people can think of making food taste better.

Ever see the movie Soylent Green? Good campy 70's film along the lines of 1984, were the masses of people (slaves) survive off food pills made from the dead bodys of political prisoners and such.

It's a nice idea that we may one day be able to meet our nutritional needs more quickly and efficiently through such scientific advances in food production. For a start, it would save a lot of labour time and allow us to concentrate on other, greater things, both individually and as a society. And like Charlie M put it, 'Economy of time, to this all economy ultimately reduces itself': 'The less time society requires to produce wheat, cattle etc, the more time it wins for other production, material or mental. Just as in the case of an individual, the multiplicity of its development, its enjoyment and its activity depends on economisation of time.'

Food already comes in pills. You can get hippo, monkey, giraffe and ostrich in pill form.

Try the giraffe, it's delicious.

Too bad that something like this, if developed, will probably first be given to soldiers at the battlefield :-\

A possible problem is that such pill might not satisfy your hunger.
If it could satisfy my hunger I'd take it at times when I couldn't be bothered to prepare myself food. That would be very nice, actually ^^

My grandma takes so many pills that she looks like some kiddo munching his skittles

Besides points where it would be obviously better (ie: Space Stations or as a general Nutrient Supplement) I would prefer it if food came in its REAL form
I personally believe that you can't match the lovely flavor of a perfect Caeser Salad with a damned pill the size of your iris
Sure it might help the kids eat their spiniach... But come on... Pill food is a bit much imo to be put in the mainstream diet
Besides, my Cousin owns a small resteraunt, She would go out of business
