can someone tell me what they are trying to say?
There's entertainment
There's politics
There's popular culture
There's dialectics
But never the twain shall meet
Never the twain shall meet
This is a myth, propagated by the bourgeois wordsmiths
Who never put a ball in the back of the net
Who never padded up or picked up a bat
Who never spent an afternoon watching their sport
Never saw the bosses quietly taking over
Never saw the stadiums, terraces, arenas
Bought off, remodeled by G plan designers
Sold off and ripped off by company directors
All these so called "revolutionaries"
Who are too busy with the uprising to see what's going on
Will be shocked to discover that at this very moment
Ron Pickering is preparing a crack squad of Proles
Too liberate our sport from its capitalist oppressors
In tracksuits and trainers, the rising of the masses!

He's a famous sports commentator in the U.K. (Wales, I think) and he died recently.
Chumbawumba are British, too.
I find their politics... interesting. They accepted a large sum of money from General Motors ($100,000 I think) and then turned around and donated it all to corpwatch.org, which provides excellent exposures of the lies and corruption of General Motors.

thanks dyer
sounds to me like these lyrics are making a stab at the front offices of sports franchises. sort of like the owners don't care about the team or the sport as long as they're making money. in response to this corporate big wigging those that really care, ie. pickering and the proles(fans) are going to revolt and correct the errors of the capitalist ways.
seems to be a comment running beneath this that the proles SHOULD be just as concerned over their lives as they are about soccer. this comes from the fact that they seem ready to revolt over a sport for the same reasons that socialists want to revolt against the capitalists.

I find those who answered to be quite forgiving.
