Which was better original ska starting with the rudeboys, or third wave in the 90's encompassing favorites like the Bosstones et al? Also what about old school revivalists like Hepcat and rejoined Skatalites?

The orrrrriginal style is way better.

In the Early 90's sublime was dope cause they sorta brought that back.

The original. Definitely.

The real Skatalites with Don Drummond. Stuff like "Man in the Street", "Don D Lion", "Eastern Standard Time", "Swing Easy" and, appropriately for this forum, "Fidel Castro".

Then the stuff they did as the studio one house band. Like with the Wailers, "Simmer Down", "Hooligan", "Shame and Scandal". yeah, and Lee Perry stuff like "Chicken Scratch" and "Pussy Galore" (with the Wailers singing harmony).

And Prince Buster tunes, such as "Al Capone" and "Madness".

I don't have much Ska. It died the death of a thousand screams back in the sixties. Then it was hijacked for subversive reasons.

I prefer the original 60s Jamaican Ska. I had the pleasure of attending a two-night event last summer called "Legends Of Ska," which was an absolutely mind-blowing stage show featuring Prince Buster, The Skatalites, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, King Stitt, plus many others (http://www.legendsofska.com).

Although I listen to plenty of Ska recorded since the late-70s, especially the 2Tone material, nothing quite hits me as the original material.

Right now, I listen to all forms of Jamaican music - Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Dub, Dancehall, Mento etc.

I met and spoke with Prince Buster and Rico Rodriguez at the show last year. One of the greatest experiences of my life.

I'm also into the old 60's style of ska. Alton Ellis and the Flames, Derick Morgan, Lee Perry, all that kind of stuff. I've found these Trojan Records box sets that are about $20 U.S, they have 3 cd's and you can get whatever set you want, Roots, Dub, Ska, Rocksteady, whatever. There's about 30 different boxes I think.

Also, what about 2 tone stuff like the Specials, Madness, the Selecter ? That's some good music.

I got into music in the early 80's through the 2 Tone scene. I still love all that music and a few years ago I played bass for the Ska band the G Men. My highlight with them was getting to support The Selecter who's line up include The Specials drummer John Bradbury. I also love 60's Ska, Rocksteady and Reggae but I'm not keen on most of the new Ska around today.

Speaking of 2 Tone I recently got hold of a tape that features 6 unreleased tracks by The Bodysnatchers.

Tell us about it. I'd probably make an ass of myself by coming across as a total anorak. Which I am, a reggae anorak.

I was totally going to say that =D
Yeah, I'm all about the Operation Ivy and the MadCaddies.
Propagandhi isn't ska, but they rock harder than anyone.

The Bodysnatchers tape features 6 studio recordings which as far as I know have never been released. The tracks on the tape are "Happy Time Tune", "What's This", "The Boiler" (this is the original and not the Special AKA version), "Private Eye", "Hiawatha" (this did get re-recorded and released by The Belle Stars) and a track that I don't know the title of. The tape quality is a bit poor but there must be a master tape somewhere of these recordings.
