View Full Version : Find me an ideology...

Hmm so well I know I agree with the overall idea of socialsm/communism, yet there are so many ideologies out there I really don't know where to begin. I was wondering if I could let you know some of my views, and then you could tell me which I should look into?
For starters, a complete breakdown of class, everyone equal (i think this should be obvious or I wouldn't be on this forum :D)
I believe everything lies in the grassroots, I think everything comes from the lowest ground level. Like alot of people here, I'm not against participating in the political system in this capitalist system. I think it is a good STARTING POINT to get the working classes aware and active of their rights. Eg. trade unions are a starting place for the discussion of ideology, class consciousness and organisation. I feel the same about worker's parties.
Am I just a reformist? Please ask me any further questions on my views if they will help.

You seem to fit one of the more libertarian Marxist ideologies
Have a look at some of the stuff on here and see what you think

I don't see anything in your post that explicitly shows you to be a reformist. But it seems to me that you're very unclear about what you actually believe in - you speak broadly about the grassroots and getting workers involved, but it's important first to set straight in your head exactly what you want these grassroots and workers to get involved in. Why don't you start reading some basic Marxist works, and move on from there? You could always ask questions in this forum and receive answers from more veteran comrades. You'll probably receive more answers than you could ever wish for - participating in such a debate in itself is a great way to get a deeper understanding of what you've read.

Comrade, don't worry about a label; this will come with studies. Read revolutionary thought, but don't be so quick to become a Luxembourgist, Marxist, Bookchinite, etc., etc. (my name is sort-of tongue-in-cheek--while I identify as an anarcho-commie I am non-dogmatic and certainly not a Kropotkin loyalist).
Read Marxists, read anarchists, even democratic socialists. Pinpoint what it is that you are so opposed to, i.e., try to get to the root of human problems. Is it capitalism? the State? human domination, in general? So, study, study, study. Follow current events. Tremble with indignation. Get angry. Write. Read. Make documentaries. ETC. Be a citizen journalist. You'll find out what you are, but avoid dogma; it only causes sectarianism.

Have a browse through the "about us" section on there and see if you agree. I suspect you might. :)

My advice is to read a lot from basic revolutionary leftist thinkers . But also a key thing is to (if your interested in becoming active) check out some local leftist organisations and see what you think of their ideology in action , how well it works , how revolutionary it is etc .
