Elegant Machinery is a Swedish synthpop band featuring Robert Enforsen (vocals), Johan Malmgren (synth) and Richard Jomshof (also synth).

The problem is that Richard Jomshof is one of the four leading members of the Swedish equivalent to the British National Party. The band has issued an official statement that it is apolitical and that Jomshof's political activities are conducted outside of the band.

The question is if that is sufficient enough to not boycott Elegant Machinery and refuse to for example buy their CD's?

I think it's sufficient. If it were a UK band that had a pro-BNP member then I'd definitely stop buying their music.

I'd never buy their music.

Boycott them because they're fucking awful, let alone because they're fascists.

I don't think I'v bought music for a couple of years at least. I don't see why anyone would pay for music unless they wanted to support whoever produced it.

Apparently, they are going to play at a youth festival in Sweden the next month...

So you do see why people would pay for music. The only albums I've paid for in recent years have been independent hip hop artists - that shouldn't be taken as a definitive representation of my taste in music though.

Personally, I wouldn't buy or pirate anything by Elegant Machinery... But given that one of the members is a big figure in the Sweden Democrats, I'd encourage anyone that was going to buy their music to consider otherwise.

Aside from this particular band, buying music is a way of supporting the artists who have made the music. If there's someone whose music I like a lot then I'd certainly buy it as a way of saying I appreciate this. I liked Radiohead's idea where people could pay whatever they thought the music was worth.
