I've recently really gotten into listening to standup, specifically this group, "The comedians of comedy:" Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Maria Bamford, and Zach Galifianakis. Great stuff. But I'm curious what comedians you guys are into....

Also: David Cross and Louis CK are great as well. And as for Dane Cook, I know I'm beating a dead horse (or whatever the saying is) but that man is so fucking unfunny...

The case for Bill Bailey:
"If I want my mundanity levened, I'll do what I always do: draw a moustache on the TV screen and wait for that glorious but fleeting moment when Jeremy Paxman becomes Lord Kitchener!"

You'll now hear Bill Hicks and Carlin mentioned over and over. Personally I liked Mark Thomas, but right now I'm loving Stuart Lee:

I've been watching Bill Hicks again. First "discovered" him two years back and I still laugh just as hard.
But if we're talking living comedians Frankie Boyle takes some beating.

My favorite comedian (though he was much, much more than that) is Charlie Chaplin. Of all the ones I've ever seen or heard, he is the greatest.

I just saw Stephen Wright's stand-up and laughed so hard that I started vomiting uncontrollably.

German comedian Loriot is brilliant! :D
Sadly these are all available clips with english subtitles, there are better ones, like a speech in the Bundestag, his famous "Schmeckts?" (Does it taste good?), christmas eve or a journey by airplane but well.

One comedian who is leftist is Mark Steel. I went to see him last Monday at my local theatre to a packed audience. Theres a series of lectures by him on YouTube about Marx if anyone's interested...
