Not the most enthusiastic grunge fan here, i however am completely a fan of Soundgarden. Chris Cornell was an excellent vocalist, Kim Thayil was an excellent guitarist, and Cameron and Sheperd were excellent drummers and bassists. Black Hole Sun, Blow up the Outside, and Boot Camp all show their ability to make spacey, eerie and strange riffs.
Any opinions?

I love Soundgarden. I've been a fan of theirs for nine years. Kim Thayil is indeed a superb guitarist; I've met him personally, and although I don't think he's a socialist, I'm sure he's of the far left.
This might sound like undeserved praise... but I think Chris Cornell is the greatest rock voice alive. Robert Plant's voice has changed, and Freddie Mercury is dead. Just listen to nearly any of his solo songs, or any of the harder Audioslave songs. (I liked the name Civilian better.)
On top of that, Cornell exemplifies the "singer/songwriter" archetype. He's a very good guitarist, although you wouldn't know it from listening to Audioslave; he is quite possibly the best writer of poetic lyrics available today; and he's certainly one of the best (if not the best) male voices today.
Rock on.

I have to say I'm not a cornell fan, his voice just doesn't do it for me, and it just seems so wrong to have him singing over the excellence of Morello in Audioslave.

I don't like audioslave myself. Cochise is overrated and Like a Stone just doesnt do it the way Black Hole Sun or AppleBite.
Dyermaker, how did you meet Thayil? Thats incredible!
