I ain't too sure about that. He had a crap childhood, as BBC News keep saying. My guess is he wanted to have a better one . . . only as an adult.

Although he was a strange person, I was always very skeptical about whether or not he was really a pedophile. Didn't one of the parents of a supposedly molested kid admit that she made up the molestation story to extort MJ for his money?
Regardless, his music was great. I'm not gonna like the huge media frenzy over it, but we lost a talented person.

I was more making fun of the priorities of the bourgeois media in my comment - the selective focus on a single isolated (usually celebrity) death here and there or some freak tabloid occurrence that they sensationalize and call "news" while the serious issues receive no mention. I guess a lot of people posting on this thread feel personally about his death, and I don't mean to be insensitive, but of all the pressing daily occurrences, I just find the death of Michael Jackson to be of absolutely no relevance to anything. That is all I was trying to convey, I realize that Michael Jackson and Anna Nicole Smith are celebrities for different reasons, I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Its true, he's being diana-fied. In the true spirit, Sir Elton has prepared this song (to the tune of candle in the wind). Awesome.
Goodbye, Michael J,
though I was too old for you
I used to dream
that you would meet me after school
you offered me a sweetie
then I got inside your car
you always promised not to hurt me
but you stretched my ass too far
And it seems to me
you had a wife
as a cover for your sins
with a cellar full of Jesus juice
and perverted things
and I would have like to have known you
but I was not a kid
I was always that much older
than the younger ones you did
Older kids are tough
tougher than a 4-year old
they might remember too much
and not do what they were told
so I'll stay over for the night
and I'll drink that Jesus juice
get me lubricated
for that good ol' child abuse
And if I were three
you'd slip inside
of my prepubescent hole
you would play the part forever
you would fill my role
and I would have liked to have known you
but I was not a kid
my use-by date was gone before
the younger ones you did

Because people read the tabloid magazines and can't help but thinking it could be true because nobody has proven the negative.

Sex allegations aside, he still paid parents money so that their kids could hang out with him and sleep in the same room as him. Even if he didnt sleep with them, again, would you trust him with any young kids you know? Yes, some people ARE just nice and a little childish, but the question remains.

I think it's interesting how the death of a celebrity can be used as a yardstick of recent history - as time goes by, more and more celebrities and personalities that seemed larger than life in my youth will die and become a part of history. I wonder how long it will be before I completely leave the 20th century behind, so to speak.
But apart from the mild surprise when I first saw this topic, I'm completely indifferent to his death.

There's also Michael Jackson's political side. He spent nearly 30 years knocking down racial barriers in culture and society, including being personally responsible for desegregating MTV. He gave millions to African American political organizations, including the NAACP, Al Sharpton's National Action Network (of which he was a member) and community groups. He's also largely responsible for Spike Lee being able to make his movie about Malcolm X.
His views on race may have been liberal in a lot of ways, but he was always willing to stand up for them and do what he thought was best to fight against racism. And as he moved into his later life, this began to manifest itself in his songs ("Scream", "They Don't Care about Us").
On the so-called "scandals", let's not forget that Michael had been pimped out by his father and Berry Gordy since he was 10 years old and never really had a childhood even before that. Quite honestly, I think that had an effect on his relations with people throughout his life. He was a nine-year-old emotionally, and never really grew beyond that. I see the Neverland ranch, the animals, the plastic surgeries and everything like that as a case of, "What if you gave a nine-year-old unlimited funds and access to them?"
No, I don't think he was a pedophile and, no, I don't think he was even necessarily creepy. I think he was emotionally stunted at such an early age that it affected everything after that. I think there's a reason why so many of his family members stuck close to him throughout his entire life -- to protect him.
If anything, I'm angry about how he was treated by this society. All he ever wanted to do was sing and have fun, and nearly everyone around him, including his parents, exploited him; and then, when he naturally rebelled, demonized him. After he attacked the capitalist media, the media fueled the pedophilia allegations (even after they were shown to be false).
I mourn his passing, as would anyone who knows and understands more about him than what the capitalist media made him out to be.

I don't like celebrities much and I don't like the media spectacle surrounding everything, but MJ was very talented and his music moved a lot of people. I also don't think it's appropriate for so many of you guys to make jokes about his death, particularly right after he died.
I shouldn't make jokes about it because "his music touched alot of people"?

That's sad. Now when will the media stop talking about it?! I'm fed up. I appreciate his music, but he was just a person like everyone else. He doesn't deserve special treatment.

Michael Jackson Moved Me
Posthumous Ruminations of One Pissed Angel by Farrah Fawcett (http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Author?oid=1756453)
Michael Jackson moved me, all right—all the way to page 10D!
Ten fucking D!
You know what? Someone up there—I mean, someone up here—must really hate my fucking guts. Ever since Charlie's Angels, I have struggled to be paid the goddamn respect I deserve. Do you think it's easy propping up the lust of an entire generation with only a one-piece swimsuit and professionally feathered hair? IT IS NOT.
Three years ago, I come down with anal cancer. (ANAL CANCER. I told you someone up here hates my guts.) Anyway, I fight against this fucking disease for three fucking years and hold on as long as I can and seek alternate treatments and go on TV to buck up other cancer victims and amaze my friends with my bravery and tenacity and then my body finally gives out and I die. And while it sucks to be dead, at least I know I'll be memorialized up what's left of my wazoo—AP stories, prominent obituaries, the full Larry King treatment.
BUT NO. Michael Jackson—that freaky little attention whore—has to drop dead on the SAME FUCKING DAY, taking my dreams of posthumous respect with him. He gets the giant, full-color picture on the front page of USA Today. His obit starts on the cover. What do I get? A box on the upper right-hand corner directing people to my obit—which begins on page fucking 10 of section fucking D! And guess what else? There's a box on the upper left-hand corner of USA Today. Who got that box? MICHAEL FUCKING JACKSON.
I can't fucking win. Honestly, I would go up and slap the white off that *****'s faces if I could. But I can't. BECAUSE HE'S NOT UP HERE. Someone go tell that to all the weeping fatties who seem to think that a string of hits in the '80s excuses a string of sex crimes in the '90s. That's right, I said it: He raped kids. HE DID IT. You know he did it. And we can say it now because you can't libel the dead, fuckers, and that goes double if the person doing the libeling is dead herself!
Oh, shit. Gotta run. Aaron Spelling just saw me. How the fuck did he get in here? http://www.thestranger.com/images/rec_star.gif

Some of the stuff I've read on this thread is disgusting and vile. Your reaction to the death of an artist who has influenced much of mainstream modern music is to continue disrespecting him and referring to him as a pheodophile, lunatic and judge him on his looks, oh wait.. everything the media you guys are so quick to criticize have done.
I'm starting to get the impression that much of the users of this site are just young people who don't want to do what daddy tells them and just choose to rebel against everything the majority follow. Lol jokes about dead people.. way to go guys :thumbup1:

He's dead, I don't think he cares. People like you have to stop thinking that they're original or that they're the first person to come along and point this out. That's part of the reason why Chit Chat is a member's forum rather than an open forum. But do most of us care? No. You're welcome to stay if you want but no one here gives a shit for your opinion.

Hey, what about yesterday
(What about us)
What about the seas
(What about us)
The heavens are falling down
(What about us)
I can't even breathe
(What about us)
What about the bleeding Earth
(What about us)
Can't we feel its wounds
(What about us)
What about nature's worth
(ooo,ooo)
It's our planet's womb
(What about us)
What about animals
(What about it)
We've turned kingdoms to dust
(What about us)
What about elephants
(What about us)
Have we lost their trust
(What about us)
What about crying whales
(What about us)
We're ravaging the seas
(What about us)
What about forest trails
(ooo, ooo)
Burnt despite our pleas
(What about us)
What about the holy land
(What about it)
Torn apart by creed
(What about us)
What about the common man
(What about us)
Can't we set him free
(What about us)
What about children dying
(What about us)
Can't you hear them cry
(What about us)
Where did we go wrong
(ooo, ooo)
Someone tell me why
(What about us)
What about babies
(What about it)
What about the days
(What about us)
What about all their joy
(What about us)
What about the man
(What about us)
What about the crying man
(What about us)
What about Abraham
(What was us)
What about death again
(ooo, ooo)
Do we give a damn

As far as dancers go, MJ was just meh. He was good, but most professional dancers blow him away. The guy annoyed me in that he made moves that had been done by others for years and years famous simply by virtue of him doing them. The moonwalk? Just a basic backwards slide. A pretty weak technique when one has seen those who can do it well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlQUzsELmKc
MJ's "air walk" looks even more half-assed by comparison.
