I don't get it.
Crimethinc is an anarchist group in the US that has, in the past, glorified the petty actions of middle-class rebels (such as shoplifting, dumpster-diving, veganism, slumming, vandalizing stop signs, "falling in love", etc.) as somehow contributing to "revolution".
Their candor has significantly improved over the years, but they recently destroyed all the good will they've earned among their fellow anarchists, by deciding to hold the "Crimethinc Convergence" (essentially an excuse for socialization and drunken revelry) in Pittsburgh, (this was before Pittsburgh was chosen as the meeting place for the G-20 this year, so there was no apparent logic behind chosing the city at the time, other than Crimethinc's lame attempt to build working-class cred) which, considering the Crimethinc Convergence is one of the most preferred events for law enforcement to try to survey and influtrate, Crimethinc is completely disregarding all local anarchist activist's (be they syndicalist or insurrectionist) concerns that Crimethinc was knowingly dragging a CIA/FBI/NSA/state police roadshow into Pittsburgh, which undoubtedly would trample upon the more serious local political projects. (A concern that's doubly relevant given the impending G-20 meeting with will have the same effect on Pittsburgh as the Crimethinc convergence, x100,000) I'm not opposed to the Crimethinc Convergence, but in past years it was held in the middle of the wilderness, which is more conducive to the atmosphere of a "get-together", and doesn't disrupt existing, mostly-working-class communities of resistance.
And, in case your confusion stems from total cultural illiteracy, the symbol in the middle of that red and black flag is the logo of the Pittsburgh Steelers, a football team popular among working-class Pittsburgh-ites. The cultural stereotype of Crimethinc kids is that of the "hipster", which stands in contrast to the cultural stereotype of Pittsburgh's working-class.

i think the pittsburgh anarchist kids who hang out at the sandwich shoppe all the time because breakfast is $2 and they can't get jobs anywhere else so they end up working at the sandwich shoppe--4 or 5 of them per shift in a 20 person capacity area including the sidewalk-- thus driving the people that own that place into bankruptcy and then having benefit shows for them at dive bars to help pay their bills are pretty fucking lame.
most of the pittsburgh anarchists i know have rich parents, get drunk all the time, vandalize, dumpster dive, and try to get kicked off pitt campus as often as possible. and they hang out with trainhoppers to get more crusty cred. granted there are some cool kids there, it's unfair to say that all of them are totally above crimethinc bs.

considering they're having it in north park, the local anarchists will be fine since only about 5 of them actually live on the north side, and even then only in the mexican war streets, because they're afraid of black people!
anyway, crimethinc is going to feel super righteous because they can hang out with all the schizophrenic campers in the park and the YMCA is right on ohio st.
sorry i'm feeling salty today.
