View Full Version : Disrepectful to the Dead?

Fictional

I'm not one to believe in upsetting the dead and what not but when I read the News paper today I was just shocked, of course with the Wimbledon event and public wanting to see it first hand people are paying a certain church £20 to park there car for a day in the graveyard, over peoples graves!

They claim the Graves contained the remains of 18th and 19th century corpses and the descendents could not be tracked, but I doubt very much that they would give a hoot to contact every single descendent of the said graves.

Quote:

Tennis fans are so desperate to catch the action at Wimbledon that they are parking their cars on top of graves at a nearby church.

Drivers negotiated trees, hedges and headstones to park their vehicles above the remains of parishioners at St Mary's Church in Wimbledon Village.
They paid the church £20 each to leave their cars on consecrated ground but sparked fury among residents.

Tell me what you think please.

As that is an actual graveyard, and not just somewhere which used to be a graveyard, they shouldn't be using it as a car park. Is there really no where else? According to the church's website, there is no more burials nowadays except in family graves. Its mostly the church seeing a way to get money.

I bet those descendants number at least 1000 people, but probably scattered across the world.

Have you ever been to a graveyard? It's a place to mourn lost ones and have peace with people who've past, not somewhere to park your BMW because you want to watch some Tennis match, it's utter bullshit and they shouldn't be using this ground as a carpark, regardless if they need money, regardless if there's nowhere else to park, walk for christ sake - ever tried backpacking?

I'm so angered by said church's greed.

Uh, a grave is a hole in the ground where you stuff a corpse so it doesn't stick up the place. Regardless of the churches's greed, it really doesn't matter.

I agree with Le People. There's really no reason to respect grave sites as something sacred, and I doubt the inhabitants of the graves really care either. Still, I don't like churches, and the chance to demonize them for this is tempting.

Who cares about some collection of non-sentient bones and worms? They could fuck the corpses for all I care, it's not as if they're hurting anyone. Honestly, the whole point of burying the dead seems silly, we ought to just cremate, filter out pollutants, and dump in the ocean. After salvaging the organs, of course.

It's not the dead you have to worry about, it's the dead's still-living relatives. Unless they complain I really don't see the problem.
