*rolls eyes* gonna have to be a music snob again but who cares.
man who wold the world is a David Bowie song so it doesn't count.
You know your right is the most repetitive, untalented, whiny shit I have ever heard from this amazing band.
Smells like Teen spirit is just.........wel....cliche...you can't tell me that you're not sick of it after hearing it on Kroq and KLOS a billion times.
my favs (open to criticism of course) are:
Serve the servants
Blew
Verse chorus Verse
D7
Dumb
Negative creep
Aneurysm
Marigold
Curmudgeon
Even in his Youth
Uhuru na Umoja

Man Who Sold The World is one of the best covers of all time.
Lithium would be a personal favourite. I thought Teen Spirit was awesome when it first came out but is so overplayed its lost its edge. still a classic when you've not heard it for a while though.

I don't know what Kroq and Klos is, but i agree to that fact that even the best song will lose it's edge after being played too much in too little time...
that's why i don't listen to the radio much, as they tend to repeat the same shit over and over... drives me crazy.

man who wold the world is a David Bowie song so it doesn't count.
Fucking bullshit! - it's a Nirvana song, listen to Unplugged and you'll hear it. Doesn't sound like Mr. Bowie to me.
I know he wrote it - but that type of statement is ridiculous in the extreme; "it doesn't count". Does that mean that "War" isn't a Bob Marley song because he didn't write all the lyrics?
Nooooooo!!!!
Death to music snobbery!
Smells like Teen Spirit is a great song - it might piss you off, but hey - Redemption Song pisses me off, and of course, that is a great song.

lol it does sound like Bowie to me. It sounds exactly the same with the exception of Kurt singing. He didn't make it original in any way. It was a mere copy. So it doesn't count. It isn't a Nirvana song.
As for Bob Marley, I don't know. Not writing all the lyrics is different from copying the song all together....lyrics, music and all. but like I said, I don't like Bob Marley so i can't really say
as for death to music snobbery......I would say the same thing a year ago but once you become a music snob you see yourself as an underapreciated scholar as someone in the john cusack movie once said. Once you are a snob, there is no turning back. but I can definitely see how music snobbery can piss you off. Music snobs even piss me off as hypocritical as that sounds. I know a music snob in a cd store who tries to convince people that Judas Priest is better than AC/DC using his.......MUSIC SNOBBERY.

I am also a music snob.
Of course it counts - they recorded it - whether it sounds like them, or sounds original is of no consequence. If someone buys a Nirvana CD, and it has that song on it, then they hear it through Nirvana. Of course it "counts".
Another reason it "counts" is because Zombie put it forward as a suggestion.

I still don't think it counts. and i don't understand what zombie has to do with it.

Zombie suggested it as one of his favourite Nirvana songs. What constitutes a song?
"a distinctive or characteristic sound or series of sounds"
Considering that the majority of said sounds were made by Dave Grohl, Kurt Cobain and that other guy, who together form the band Nirvana. I think it can easily be classified as a Nirvana song - at least the recording of it to which Zombie is referring to.

I've been listening to Nirvana for at least 13 years and i have to say that "The Man Who Sold the World" is NOT a Nirvana song. It is merely a cover and to say that it is your favorite Nirvana song shows the lack of your Nirvana knowledge and appreciation.
Canikickit, the other member was Krist Noveselic, of course unless you're referring to the album Bleach in which David Grohl was not the drummer. Chad Channing was and I believe Jason Everman was the rhythm guitarist. Also, "Lake of Fire" was not a Nirvana song- it was a Meat Puppets song from there album "Too High To Die".
Anyway my favorites are:
Negative Creep
Lithium
Verse chorus Verse
D7
Dumb
Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
Aneurysm
Marigold
Curmudgeon
Even In His Youth
Pennyroyal Tea
Naturally I have tons more but these are the first that come to mind

If they fucking sang the song and you like their recording of the song - then yes, of course it can be one of you favourite songs. It's total bullshit to say otherwise.
Total Bullshit. I don't give a fuck how long you've been listening to Nirvana - you're full of fucking shit.

i love Kurdt Kobain.
As for my favourite Nirvana songs, they are as follows...
Lithium
Rape Me
Serve the Servants
Smells Like Teen Spirit
On a side note, i really hate how pretentous alot of people here are being. After man in the red suit disregarded the Nirvana covers and SLTS, everyone went on a rampage of concurance trying to sound like a real hardc0re Nirvana fan. Well, i don't care if they weren't written by Cobain himself, i love the Nirvana covers, especially The Man Who Sold the World.
Also, how we react to music is not a primary sense, it differs from person to person like tastes or scents, so no critique of any song is universaly relevant. So you shouldn't be dick just because someone doesn't react to a piece of music the same way as you do (just a little recomendation to avoid any more arguments).

No. War is a song by Sepultura. Ok so they covered it from Marley but it is not a Marley song. Blegh..
Negative Creep, Rape Me

I actually think Nirvana are a bit over rated. Dont get me wrong they are a good band but people talk about them in the same way as they talk of bands such as Elvis and the Beatles. (niether who im not really a great fan of... but they were good)
As if Nirvana were the greatest ever band, but to tell the truth they are not nearly as good as bands such as Pink Floyd, UB40, the Pixies.
Just my opinion.

Nirvana did a great job with the song. In fact the actual original performers/writers of it do the song with them.
The Meat Puppets are the originators. Pick up their second album.

Its weird listening to Nirvana now cos his suicide has come to define everything he wrote. When people listen to the lyrics all they hear is a suicidal heroin addict.
