Just thought I'd tell people about a demo I went on today, which turned out to be very eventful.
It was a march organised through Newcastle by Tyneside Community Action for Refugees and supported by local activists from No Borders, RCG, SWP and other individuals. Only about 50 on the march in total, but it was really lively. On my arrival at the meet up point I was informed about the NF forming at the destination we were marchin to. After being followed by a few of them along the way, we came into contact with about 20 of the nuckle draggers at about the half way point, with their British and English flags and anti-immigration banners. They were a bunch of stereotypical looking fascists too, horrible looking people. They seemed to get very aggressive pretty quickly and diverted the police attention away from the friendly but loud atmosphere of our march. It got a bit intense at one moment, and I got a bit of a buzz from the confrontation. The police forced them to take another route to out destination point where we met them again, but they seemed to leave pretty quickly as they knew they weren't getting anywhere. In contrast, we stayed for a couple of hours, in full spirits, chanting in the pouring rain!
We definatley got the upper hand on the small battle
