*Viva La Revolucion*

Hi there,
I'm from the UK. I'm 17 and studying literature, history, Spanish and philosophy at 6th form college. I'm quite new to this and I don't really know how to make an introduction so I'll just talk about my views and reasons for joining.
I'm a communist (and fed up with the negative connotations of the word 'communist'. If someone asks my political stance and I tell them, they look as though they're about to drop to the floor).
I believe in/support:
the fight against capitalism and the unequal society it maintains
the right for everyone to live in a classless, democratic society
gay rights and gender equality
environmental campaigns - again, capitalism is preventing America and other countries from doing more to combat climate change. The massive corporations are only thinking of their short-term gain.
closing the income gap; a nurse who works very hard can get paid about £19,000 per year. Compare this to footballer Wayne Rooney's £10,000,000 a year. Now to even the biggest football fan, this kind of disparity should be unacceptable.
the abolition of the monarchy.
atheism and Mr Dawkins, although I'm not exactly 'militant' in my views.
the national health service! Private healthcare should be stopped.
the anti-war movement
the better treatment and support of asylum seekers.
I've always had some interest in politics, but the recent events (in the UK and globally) have prompted me to actually DO something. It was a combination of things: the MPs' expenses scandal (in case you don't know they spent taxpayers’ money on cleaning their moats, engraving their well covers and funding their second/third/fourth homes); the rise in votes for the BNP and the conservatives is scary to say the least, and now there’s the issue of the decidedly un-democratic elections in Iran.
Wow, how was that for a rant?! ;)
