View Full Version : Workers at Iran Khodro Car Plant Go on Strike!
First news of workers strikes in protest at the current situation, Iran Khodro car (car plant ) workers have issued a statement : they condemn the repression and say what we are witnessing is an insult to peoples intelligence . Both shifts are on strike. We should welcome this move by one of the most combative sections of the Iranian working class. Workers at Iran Khodro have been in many struggles against the management and the state, for this their leaders have been imprisoned, tortured, sacked and killed.

Good find, now let's sit back and watch what all the "Ahmadinejad is the workers' hero" loonies have to say.

Potentially a significant development in Iran with the car workers on strike. My understanding though is that this happened yesterday and only involved 2 shifts at the plant. We need more clarifications on this asap by people blogging from Iran. These are
1. Is the factory on a complete indfinate strike and is it closed down, or is it a token strike lasting a day.
2. Any sign of it spreading elsewhere especially to the heavy duty boys like the Oil workers.
I stand by yesterday assertion that this is a factional fight between the clerical bourgeois leaning on ordinary people, if however the working class is getting involved in a way which challenges the clerics and moussivi then that can only be a good thing and should be supported provided that it is anti cleric and anti imperialist/capitalist. If the workers are sucked into the factional fight then that would be unfortunate unless there is crystal clear evidence of ballot fiddling

I believe when it refers to "both shifts" they mean both the day and night shift (or morning/evening, or whatever combination), as opposed to only two shifts.
In similar news other workers' organizations in Iran have begun expressing their dissent against the government and support for the protests:
