Something should be organized in NZ. A lot of the left here are way to complacent about it (Using "anti-imperialism" to justify theocrats clamping down on protestors) though.

There was a solidarity event in Hamburg today. Mousavi supporters had banned leftists from having speeches or banners at their demonstration, so the Worker-Communist Party and SPI organized their own rally with the main slogan "Down with the Islamic Republic" that began an hour earlier on the other side of the central station. This event was supported by some German left groups and attracted about 50 people, while the pro-Mousavi demonstration had 2500 participants.
A group of about 100 monarchists waving pre-1979 Iranian flags had their own opening rally, but joined the pro-Mousavi march afterwards.
I'm quite surprised and disappointed by the tiny size of the socialist rally, apparently the Iranian left's influence among the exile community is very small here (even more so as half of the participants today weren't Iranian).
Also unfortunately our rally nearly split when members of the local group of stalinists tried to violently attack some antigermans (supporters of US- and Israeli imperialism) who were just standing there expressing their solidarity, the stalinists were held back by other participants and most of them left soon, while the antigermans stayed, but stood some meters away looking pissed off.

And who do you mean by the "stalinists" ? Iranian ML'ists? DKP? MLPD? or what?

It's SoL (Sozialistische Linke), a group that only exists in Hamburg. They aren't entirely stalinist, but some of their members certainly are and they have friendly relations with some maoist/hoxhaist KPD/ML splinters, e.g. they make common leaflets for some demonstrations.
The antigermans present (mostly) weren't of the diehard "Nuke Iran" Bahamas-reading kind (those obviously wouldn't take part in a "solidarity with Iranian workers" rally), but rather more moderate "antigerman communists"

Iran 2009: Society in Rebellion – Meeting this Saturday!

Solidarity meeting hosted by Hands Off the People of Iran
Saturday July 4, 17.10
Room 3B University of London Union, Malet Street
Speakers:
John McDonnell MP
Yassamine Mather (HOPI Chair)
Socialist Workers’ Party (invited)
Socialist Party (invited)

Iranian society is convulsed by a political crisis on a scale not seen for over a decade. Masses of Iranian people have taken to the streets since the results of the rigged elections. Their outrage is justified. The levels of blatant vote-rigging on show was crazy even by the standards of Iran’s Islamic Republic regime. The masses are continuing to defy the crackdown and to come out onto the streets and urgently need our material and ideological solidarity.

If the left can come together on this question then we can win hegemony over the solidarity movement, which is currently dominated either by Moussavi supporters and/or groupings which are silent on the role of imperialism in the Middle East.

With this in mind, Hopi is hosting this meeting and has invited speakers from the Socialist Workers Party and the Socialist Party. We are urging the SWP to incorporate the event into its Marxism event, and if not then to send along a speaker to try and discuss the way forward for solidarity action on this crucial question.

There is no inherent contradiction between Islam and Marxist dialectics. The two, in fact, have a rich history of dialogue. Read some of the philosophy of Malcolm X and the Nation of Islam for some interesting correlates.
