Aesop Rock is my favorite MC. He isn't very well-known, but his lyrics are amazing. I recommend his Labor Days album. Nine to Five ers Anthem is a great anti-capitalist song to start off with.

Also check our Mr. Lif (super anti-American) and El-P
All these guys can be found on the Def Jux label. It will not be the easiest stuff to find, but to those of you who are actually interested in independent, politically minded, and straight up ILL hip-hop, take the time because it will be worth it.

Listen to "Yellow Rage" that's the shit.

Ward of the State II by Askari X is pretty good, but I don't like some of his other stuff.

Well, I ampologize to those who obviously know def jux. I didn't mean to insult your vast musical knowledge.

Anyway, if, you've heard them, check out Sage Frances, Aceyalone, or Slug from Atmosphere. They are all nice as well. Sage has some good spoken word.

LOL @ GR

Look out for Dulak Shamon in the future. last i heard he was just pulling some shit together, but he is pretty ill, and puts on a good live show too. You can catch him with the old group Imperial Massive from a few years ago.

I am glad that Hip-Hop was inveneted but please don't get all nationalist with it!!!

The way I always thought of it was that Hip-Hop was a culture, and don't cultures trancend political boundaries.

Hip-Hop could help ease the pian of a Revolution we all need it!

Conscious rap has got to be my favorite music. Anything by aesop rock, the roots, dead prez, reflection eternal because talib kweli is a god among men, but by far when kweli and mos def got together to make the blackstar record was the best album ever.
