It doesn't even have to be political. Specific songs would be nice, rather than album names.

Junichi's list is a good start. Listing specific songs may take me days. Are you look for JUST punk, or some OI and Ska as well? In that case, i'll be here for weeks. I'll add on to Junichi's band list a lil.

The Clash and Sublime (if you're into good music, not necessarily punk).
The Clash rule more than any of the aforementioned bands, with perhaps the exception of the Ramones and DK.

Good work people, although the Greenday, Offspring, Pennywise and Bad Religion recommendations are not needed (already heard the majority of their songs).

Classic Punk Sex Pistols :- bollocks.... are you INSANE.

Box Car Racer i like but loads of people dont so that one ok, for you to call bollocks.

A when youve seen them live playing that song you would totaly reconsider your entire views on them.

Those two quotes are enough to tell me you know nothing about punk. The Pistols were a corporate spinoff, Malcom McLaren seeing a way to make money. As for Green Day, they are just a poor man's Descendents. Maybe if you actually listened to some 90s punk you would realise just how poor Green Day are.

I first saw 'A' live in 1999 (I think), when they were touring their excellent Monkey Kong album. There's no doubting that 'A' were a great band right up until Hi-Fi Serious, which is terrible. Their performance @ Reading last year was average at best.

I gotta agree with guerillaradio here. What the fuck are you thinking, Greenday the best punk band of the 90s? And, finally, someone else who understand thats the sex pistols were just corporate little *****es.

Malcom McLaren was a snotty little tool, and one of the most incompetent pricks to manage a band. Almost all the people concerned with the Sex Pistols except for Malcolm himself say it was John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten), not Malcom, that contributed most to the creative direction, lyrics and the general attitude of the Pistols. Malcom was more interested in the Pistols being a pop band, he said himself that he wanted to see them "compete with the Bay City Rollers". Lydon rightly saw this as stupid and counterproductive, and the band agreed, so they followed his directions rather than Malcolms. Likewise, everyone concerned with the Pistols except Malcom himself agree that it was Glen Matlok, and to a lesser extent Paul Cook and Steve Jones, that contributed mostly to the music of the Pistols. Malcom had nothing to do with the song-writing or the music.

He was responsible for getting John Lydon to join the band, but thats about it. He was terrible at scoring gigs and he treated the band like shit.

If Mclaren was the one behind the Pistols success, why is it that after Lydon left the band they turned to shit? This was the period when Malcom had the most control. When Rotten was in the band the Pistols wrote songs about the establishment, the monarchy and the current state of the world, when he left and Malcom took control they took to doing songs with Ronnie Biggs in Rio about how the holocaust was funny and other such verbal diarrea, a couple of months later they were no more.

And corperate *****es dont get fired from two major record labels within two years of existance.

Back to the topic at hand, since I've thought of some more bands....

Anything be Suicidal Tendancies.
Anything by Black Flag.
Anything by Pennywise.
Anything by The Damned.

Also check out John Wayne Was A Nazi by MDC. Really basic from a musical standpoint but still highly effective, and painfully honest and accurate lyrically.
