I am listening to Civil War by Guns 'n Roses and on of the stanza's is 'blah blah As Popular war advances, Peace is Nearer.' What? That surprised the hell out of me. Or it speaks of dogmatic capitalists 'The bloody hands of the hyponotized carry the cross of homocide, ... history hides the lies of our civil war'
Do any other GnR song's have this leaning in them?

GNR has some lyrics that sound leftist but I just think they're doing the "commi thing" to find an audience. The new lineup of GNR has been seen whith leftist symbols on their clothes and instruments. It's just a fashion for them.

Axl's new band is called Chinese Democracy, but I think they suck. Axl can't sing like he used to.

Did you know that Will Young, winner of Pop Idol is a marxist?! It's true, although he admits he lives a very capitalist lifestyle.

I hate Axl, he's such a twat, long live Slash.

Are you crazy?? We're talking about a band who once said "niggas and faggots, I don't want your rings", or words to that effect...

Police and Niggers, that's right
Get out of my way
Don't need to buy none of your
Gold chains today
I don't need no bracelets
Clamped in front of my back
Just need my ticket; 'til then
Won't you cut me some slack?

[...]

Immigrants and faggots
They make no sense to me
They come to our country
And think they'll do as they please
Like start some mini Iran,
Or spread some fuckin' disease
They talk so many goddamn ways
It's all Greek to me

"As popular war advances, peace is closer..." is actually Axl quoting from some one. I know the "what we've got here is failure to communicate...." line at the start is from Cool Hand Luke, so it might make sense that the popular war line is from there as well.

Civil War is an interesting song for GnR to have. They are relatively a-political but delve into politics with this one song crazily. Maybe it was their attempt to re-create Sabbath's War Pigs. (On a side note its funny to see Ozzy who once sang this song so fucking blinded by capitalism--the root of what he sang about).

The song is good and the lyrics are on point. I was a huge GnR fan but despite the musicality of One in a Million the words suck. Axl is a fucking idiot. But at the same time this song is very much a redneck anthem in that he seems to hate everyone (including himself) and blames them for the world's problems.

That's my two cents anyway.

p.s.-this is my first post in over a month or so....sorry to anyone who has been wondering where I've been. I've been crazy busy with work and (eh-hem) I'm engaged.

FELCITATION J

The line about popular war is from a bolivian geurilla general, or so it claims in the lyrics...

Guns N' Roses is by far not socialist. They are still a good band though

Axl's had a pretty messed up life. According to an in-depth interview I read with him soon after Izzy left the band, he was abused/molested by his father when he was a kid, and was drugged and raped when he was a teenager travelling as a hitch-hiker.

He was also once nailed in the crotch with a bic lighter during a concert ;)

Former Guns N' Roses bassist Duff McKagan has rejoined with guitarist Slash, drummer Matt Sorum, and guitarist Izzy Stradlin to form a band that's basically back together except for singer Axl Rose.
The enigmatic frontman continues on with a current Guns N' Roses lineup consisting of guitarist Robin Finck, bassist Tommy Stinson, guitarist Richard Fortus, guitarist Buckethead, and drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia. The only current member that was around playing with the old band is keyboardist Dizzy Reed.

McKagan was asked his thoughts on the current Guns N' Roses--and Sorum added his two cents. "It's not Guns N' Roses, you know? [Axl] should have probably done his own solo record," said McKagan. "In saying that, also, I do wish him the best. We went through a lot together and I still have a lot of love for the guy. It's a shame that there's a...he's doing a lot to...there's a lot of bitterness..."

"Does Paul McCartney go around calling himself 'the Beatles'?" interjected Sorum. When McKagan answered no, Sorum retorted, "There you go."

"But he's doing what he thinks is the right thing," McKagan continued. "You can't fault a guy for that, but it's not Guns N' Roses."

Guns N' Roses are currently completing their forthcoming album, Chinese Democracy, which the band attempted to tour on late last year. Meanwhile, the rest of the former members--whose band name is under wraps--are looking for a singer. The band has more than 50 songs written and is planning to release an album and then tour.
