Back in April, there was something called the day of silence. It was a day when people didn't say anything all day to represent the Gays and Lesbians who had to keep quiet about their sexual orientation. Anyway, as I was walking to the train depot from school, I see this old guy handing out papers. I'm used to this, people hand out papers advertising events or trying to get you to donate to some historical society or something. Anyway, this guy hands me this paper. I shake my head because I didn't really care and I just wanted to get home. The guy still shoves this paper in my hand.
When I get to the train depot, I sit on a bench waiting for the train to come. I had nothing else to do, so I started to read the hand-out the guy gave me. I was really shocked! It was like this whole thing on why you should not be silent on the day of silence. I thought, "Great, another conservative nutcase." I continued reading and then I saw it said that people should be silent in support of other discriminated people, like the elderly or infirm. Then I thought, "Okay, that's reasonable enough," though I still didn't fully agree because that day was set aside only in support of gays and lesbians. I am all for having a day to support other discriminated groups, just not on the same day as the day of silence. Anyway, I read on then out of nowhere, the paper says that homosexuality is disgusting and should be made a criminal offense. Then I thought, "Well, this guy was a conservative nutcase after all." I ripped the paper in half and tossed it in the trashcan. I actually considered leaving the depot and paying an extra 85 cents to get back in again to go argue with the guy. But then my train came.:(
