Fuck this because I got two verses from Black Thought and Malik B of the roots.
The two greatests verses I have ever heard any rappers say. I mean here the song "I Remain Calm" They both ripped the fuck outta that shit
I remain calm, lyrically I got the bomb
when you put me on, I remain calm
(repeat 4X)
[Malik B]
It's the 'I remain calm' but for jurge to erk
Come out my humble go berzerk and make you swallow your smirk
I splurge most and bash, capacitate mass
I fascinate as I assassinate and show task
Characters and egos, get crushed in trust
And my words stampede like herds in a dusk
Cream of all crops, topics I drop with Tortter
When heated up, I gets hotter cause I'm proper
You never knew the levitude the clever few
Different tax for revenue man if you ever knew
the tac-tic, strategies, of word, ca-pa-bil-ities
Display, de-cease
the rhythm, and man how it swerved and curved
Made a niggaz dream but his hope deferred then stirred
Dig the mentals, Papermate, Bic's and Number 2 pencils
My credentials blow on instrumentals
I write an anthem throw a tantrum and remain handsome
Mysterious vibes, like I was the phantom
Erupt abruptly, then conduct amaze
You're fucked when the lyrics get bucked because I graze
Never animosity, on my property
Niggaz acropoly, or they feel extreme monstrosity
Riq and Lik out the verbals aqi? don't forget it
The chief of edit then Malik'll shred it yeah I said it
I remain calm, lyrically I got the bomb
when you put me on, I remain calm
(repeat 4X)
[Black Thought]
That nigga Thought flows like a river I deliver
styles like Domino's, eyes closed I inhale
equality follow me now son
Listen my divisions advance I surpass one half the rap mass
the other half, want my autograph, because I got
soul plus a ghetto stroll similar to Shaft
It's the mic rapers, splittin Phillies in the cellar
My acapella verse, can stomp, I delete comp
My rated X, larynx, wrecks your context
I'm complex, confusin, lyrically amusin, I drink brews
then when I'm groovin I'm no longer human
I'd like to take this time to give a shout to all the money makers
in the house galore they help me turn it out
I whip the cap to the max, I'm laid back, like your gramps
I make, niggaz embarrased like they spendin food stamps
I take, my time when I rhyme lovely, me nah like
ugly like, God we get odd to the rhythms
Rappers thinkin of steppin up, what the fuck you're doin?
I amplify the hymn to bring your empire to ruin
Who's your girl screwin fellas? Jealous because I'm fly
Keep my sneakers dry, when you cry-baby
See I can have you headin for the border like a ReFugee from Haiti
Aiyyo, this brother drivin my cab, tried to flip, saying
"Pay me in advance" -- I asked him if he ever danced
in the dark, with the rap devil, Black Thought
See niggaz who get caught off guard remain scarred
into air, with headphones remainin on the domes, they hair
I resound and astound and scare, I reign terror
into another nigga rap era, my rhymes sedate
I lubricate, like aloe vera
I'm extreme, restin in the land of the plot and the scheme
Peace to ? Rock and the Equal Team
I remain calm, lyrically I got the bomb
when you put me on, I remain calm
(repeat 12X)

But on the Che Guevara highway filling up with gasoline

lol, I love that joke, it sounds almost exactly the same. Jimi even (pretend) kissed his bass player after he sang the line in a concert in London. :)
BTW, someone mentioned the "you can fool some people..." line from the Bob Marley song, but that's actually a quote he was using from Abe Lincoln (although you probably knew that).
My favorite lines? Oh, so many, here's a couple:
"I've seen the needle and the damage done, every junky's like a setting sun..." Neil Young 'Needle and the damage done' (although I generally don't like his stuff too much)
"'Cause I feel just like Jesus' son, when I put the spike into my vein..." Lou Reed and Velvet Underground, 'Heroin' (a theme is emerging it seems...)
"One pill makes you smaller, one pill makes you laaaarge. And the ones that mother gives you, don't do anything at allll..." Jefferson Airplane, 'White Rabbit'
"BLEEEEEEHHHHHHAAAAAA!!! FUCK HER IN THE ASS!!!!! FUCK MY LITTLE FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVORITE! BLEEEHHHHH!!!" - Jim Morrison (almost passed out on stage with Jimi Hendrix, the track is called Morrison's Lament if you're interested)

I just heard the full version of "Niggas are scared of the Revolution" by the Last Poets, and seriously have found the greatest verse.
"Niggers fuck. Niggers fuck, fuck, fuck
Niggers love the word fuck
They think it's so fuckin' cute
They fuck you around
The first thing they say when they're mad: 'Fuck it'
You play a little too much with them
They say 'Fuck you'
When it's time to TCB,
Niggers are somewhere fucking
Try to be nice to them, they fuck over you
Niggers don't realize while they doin' all this fucking
They're getting fucked around
And when they do realize it's too late
So niggers just get fucked up
Niggers talk about fucking
Fuckin' that, fuckin' this, fuckin' yours, fuckin' my sis
Not knowing what they're fucking for
They ain't fucking for love and appreciation
Just fucking to be fucking.
Niggers fuck white thighs, black thighs, yellow thighs, brown thighs
Niggers fuck ankles when they run out of thighs
Niggers fuck Sally, Linda, and Sue
And if you don't watch out
Niggers will fuck you!
Niggers would fuck 'Fuck' if it could be fucked
But when it comes to fucking for revolutionary causes
Niggers say 'Fuck revolution!'
Niggers are scared of revolution"
I was laughing, and nodding my head at the same time, so sad.

"I wish that
I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that
I'd sailed the talkin' seas on a great big clipper ship
going from this land here to that
on a sailor's suit and cap
for we're from the big city
where a man cannot be free
of all of the evils of this town
and of himself and those around
and I guess that i just don't know"
"Heroin: it's my wife"
------------------------------------
Anyhoo, my new favourites:
"We passed upon the stairs,
spoke of what and when.
Although i wasn't there,
he said i was his friend
which came as a surprise.
I spoke into his eyes;
'I thought you'd died alone
a long long time ago?'
'Oh, no. Not me.
We never lost control.
You're face
to face
with the man who sold the world."
Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World
"Well be dem bok mm bok e momeno
be dem bok e bokelo
gotta to get it get it over with
gotta to get 'n' get oh lord
diggy diggy doo momenoh
diggy diggy doo momenoh oh i
diggy diggy doo momenoh oh i"
- Clinic - The Second Line
I don't think lyrics are that important

Tha lunatic is on tha grass.
Tha lunatic is on tha grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep tha loonies on tha path.
Tha lunatic is in tha hall.
Tha lunatics are in my hall.
Tha paper holds their folded faces to tha floor
And every day tha paper boy brings more.
And if tha dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon tha hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on tha dark side of tha moon.
Tha lunatic is in my head.
Tha lunatic is in my head
You raise tha blade, you make tha change
You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane.
You lock tha door, And throw away tha key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if tha cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if tha band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on tha dark side of tha moon.

"We the American Working population hate the fact that eight hours a day is wasted on chasing the dream of someone that isn't us. And we may not hate our jobs but we hate jobs in general that don't have to do with fighting our own causes.
We the American Working population hate the nine to five day in and day out while we'd rather be supporting ourselves by being paid to perfect the pastimes we have harboured based solely on the fact tha it makes us smile if it sounds dope." - Nine to Fiver's Anthem, Aesop Rock
Those are just a few that came to mind.

Shut-up about RAGE! The manics use intelligence in their lyrics and use words that those rage pricks probobly couldnt understand.
I mean, "fuck you, i wont do what you tell me" is hardly a good case for socialism is it?

wolfie:
way to isolate a lyric outside of context
that line IS a great message for socialism, it inspires revolutionary principles
the context of "Killing in the Name" deals with, specifically, southern capitalists and their penchant for racism. so, you don't do what they tell you to.

its not exactly my favorite genre of songs but its some really fucking good lyrics....
"I don't want to miss a thing (?)
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing,
Watch you smile while you are sleeping,
While you are far away and dreaming,
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender,
I could stay lost in this moment forever,
Where a moment spent with you is a moment I treasure,
(Chorus)
I don't want to close my eyes, I don't want to fall asleep,
Cause I miss you baby, And I don't want to miss a thing,
Cause even when I dream of you, the sweetest dream will never do,
I still miss you baby and I don't want to miss a thing
Lying close to you feeling your heart beating,
And I wondering what you are dreaming,
Wondering if it's me you are seeing,
Then I kiss your eyes and thank god we're together,
I just want to stay with you in this moment forever and forever forever
(Chorus)
And I don't want to miss one smile,
I don't want to miss one kiss,
I just want to be with you right here with you,
Just like this, I just want to hold you close,
I feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment,
For all of the rest of time
(Chorus)"
