I could easily say

RATM
Audioslave
System of a Down
Refused
(International) Noise Conspiracy
Napalm Death

Now, there are some I am doubtful of, are these socialists?

Kreator
Ministry (someone mentioned them here)
Corrosion of Conformity

And could you please add names to the list?

bit of a different genre of music, but Will Young admitted to being a Marxist.

WTF?!?!? Will Young, hmmm...

Just Joe

honestly. he said in some interview that he was Marxist, then when he went on the Frank Skinner Show, apparently he said he was a 'hypocritical Marxist' meaning he was anti-capitalism but didn't say no to money. strange i know.

musicians have to eat too and I doubt Audioslave are socialist yes Tom Tim and Brad are socialist but i dont know about Chris I know the guitarist from Soundgarden Kim Thyaile (sp?) was part of the NO WTO COMBO so he may be socialist

The Coup?

Yep, the Coup are Marxist.

Chris Cornell, I think, supports the Green Party, but you'd never hear him say it in public. Neither his lyrics and his public statements reveal any element of his politics.

Oh yeah, Burning Spear (Winston Rodney) is socialist.

Wow, Will Young? I have to tell people about this!

I wouldn't call Audioslave leftist. Aren't Amen left wing?

Dead Prez is Socialist I think. I guess they'd be Black Nationalist, but they take about Socialism alot, but then again my favorite quote by them "I'm not a Marxist, I'm a marked man with the dark skin."

Ministry is radical anarchist/socialist , basically they hate hipocracy and the current rule of government.

All the lists above seem fairly mainstream. Here's a small list of some great old and new politically left bands:

the Redskins (UK)-soul/punk
The Strike (CHICAGO by way of Minn)- punk
The Blaggers ITA (UK)-punk
Stage Bottles(Germany)-oi!/punk
Billy Bragg(UK)-folk/rock (I'd be shocked that anyone here doesn't know him)
Hudson Falcons(New Jersey,USA)punk/oi!
Asian Dub Foundation(UK) drum n'bass/dub/hip-hop
Angelic Upstarts(uk) punk/oi!
Klasse Kriminale(Italy)-oi!
Erase Today(UK)-punk

eerh....that's all off the top of my head. There are plenty more I can think of that are soley anti-fascist that I didn't list. Any old school punks or skins out there that can add to this?

just about ALL "new rock", aka alernative music, has socialist tendencies

thats because their source is punk, which is all socialist

ie. Dead Kennedy's, Black Flag, X, etc

Audioslave is not socialist and in my opinion is a poor excuse for RATM. I mean why Chris Cornell, Soundgarden sucks.
RATM is truly leftist

redrebel:

not socialist? what about "set it off"? completely in reference to a communist revlution. what about gasoline? what about that song abut the rich guy who audioslave are gonna beat up, just because he's rich? what about cochese? redrebel, they are ALMOST as socialist as RATM, but then again RATM is the most socialist band to come out of the nineties.

bad religion is very socialist. their name implies that they are anti-religious, but I see way more anti-capitalist sentiments than anything else. I think that their anti-religious name is an attention getter. very socialist.

I think all you have to do is open a bad religon CD case to see that they are probably socialists. They have plenty of images of priests, politicians, judges and others with money being shown as their god.

What about the Exploited? Has anyone mentioned them?

Against Me! is an anarchist band from florida.

Any punk (real punk, not this blink 182, sum 41 garbage) will usually have a political message worth hearing.
