So hey, this is my first new threat created by me, and I'm making this to learn and to get to know some more of you better.
I've been smoking since 14, just on cigarettes and stuff, I start doing other stuff after 2 years and I've recently quit everything thanks to a relationship.
Although I'm allowed to smoke Cigars which I love doing after working while reading a book, but I can't seem to pick anything out of the huge amounts at my tobacconists can someone point me in the right way? Don't go too strong, I've got the lung capacity of a 90 year old in Cuba.
I'm a fan of those little ones called Cafe Creme, they're really nice and a pretty smooth taste.
Thanks.

I don't really smoke cigars, but I've always heard good things about the Romeo y Julieta brand.

Nat Sherman's are really smooth. They are all natural so they won't hit you as strong but smoke like three and it'll sneek up on you. Well at least on me since I'm not a big smoker.

Ever tried flavoured Cigars?

Hmm, not really, not after you've experienced a real cigar. They're basically cigarettes with brown wrappers. They're good for a quick nicotine kick if that's what you're after; but no cigar taste.
Smoking decent cigars obviously isn't cheap. Once every now and again, i'll pop into a tobacconist for a corona or robusto (those are the names of the sizes, and i've probably missplelled them) Bolivar or Montecristo -- you're talking £10-15 per cigar. The high-quality non-Cubans are sometimes slightly less expensive -- not significantly so.

They're not cigars... ;) At least not after you've had something real
Like V1917 said, Bolivars and Monte Cristos are pretty good, in terms of "good cigars" they're the most mainstream you're gonna get. When I was in college, I used to smoke Henri Wintermans, they're slightly more affordable than the afforementioned. Never get suckered in to King6 or Churchill's, they're better than hamlets, but not really worth the time.
Obviously, Habana's are tops. But not the most affordable. I'll echo myself, depending on how much you want to smoke cigars, you could buy less of the bolivars/monte cristo and have one as an occasional pleasure, or if you're looking more regularly, Wintermans.

It's sad how you have make a choice between quality and quantity.

Quality wins imho. A nice tip is to dip the end that you smoke in to a bit of whiskey as well... when the occasion calls for it, of course.

You dont get much better then Cohiba. When i was in Pinar del Rio at the cigar factory there, i bought a couple for 10 CUC$ (same as €) per cigar. Dont know if you get them that cheap outside of Cuba. Montecristo and Romeo y Julieta are not bad either. Remember, best ones are real cubans not fake dominicans.:cubaflag:

Oh sweet, I've made a note of some the cigars you've mentioned, I'll get to the Tobacconist after work.
Be honest Comrades, I've had Pneumonia, Asthma, Hayfever (Conflicts with Breathing) and been a hefty smoker for a good 4 years, what are the chances I'm going to die after smoking one of these?
I hear smoking a cigar every month while not smoking anything else can be good for you, it hardens your lungs or something. Agree, Disagree or Agree to Disagree?

I smoked a cigar of the Castella brand last year. It was delicious. I was away at the time, and I can't find anyone who sells them on their own. It was only a little one, though. I still haven't splashed out on one of those big bastards.

Any tips on smoking a cigar? I've smoked cigarettes so I'm not new to smoking, but I hear smoking Cigars is alot more fucked up, you don't take it in, I also heard that you only take a little in, I've tried both but I very really get more than a mouthful of smoke if I don't take it in, which in all honesty seems odd.

I only take a little in. But I have taken large draws all the way into my lungs in the past, which was not a very good thing. Probably better just to take a little, if you're taking it at all. Hold the butt to your nose and just enjoy the smell. It's lush, as they say.

Cigarrettes are gross, as are the people who smoke them, to a lesser degree.
But cigars are cool for some reason. Not that I would ever smoke them, they're the pinnacle of manliness, so they're just cool for you men. But I say this simply from an objective perspective.

When I was on Cuba, I bought a pack of Cohiba Esplendidos for 60 CUC( peso convertibile, about same as dollar) and they were delicious. The pack costs about 500 CUC in the shop made for tourists, but the real price is much smaller. I got to meet a guy (boyfriend of my Cuban friend) who works in a factory, so he gave me the best price there is. I also tried Montecristos (No4 is my favourite size) and Romeo Y Julliettas, but nothing is comparable to the fine taste of Cohiba. It has soft taste, and was a genuine hedonistic expirience to smoke those cigars.
Somebody asked about smoking tips. I was affarid that, being a cigarette smoker since 12 years old, that i won't find the beauty of not inhaling, just enjoying the scent and the taste. But when you light up a proper cigar, don't worry, you'll enjoy it, cigarette smoker or not.
The best way to smoke a good cigar is with a strong drink like cognac or whiskey. Don't drink rum with it, it's not that good combination. Also, if yu don't drink or don't have strong drinks, just grab a piece of chocolate cake or a chocolate bar(not milk chocolate). Don't try to smoke the whole thing at once, cut it and continue when you feel like it.

A little bit, there's the idea that butane from the lighter taints it... Preferably keep the cigar above and near the flame, rather than letting them make contact.

I never got around to smoking any of those when I was in Mexico City several months ago (I got sick and rested a lot during my last couple of days. The partying we did at Plaza Garibaldi was fun, and we managed to draw in over 100 people into a bunch of dancing and singing. Staying up late and partying all the time probably did not do me any favors. :D). I did not bring any of them back, given that I am a US citizen and that would be illegal.
We have a "Cohiba Black" brand that goes around in the US, which is pretty good, but I doubt it is like the real thing (I think these are made in the Dominican Republic.). They are a bit expensive, though, so the quality is there.
I don't smoke full sized cigars, largely due to the prices attached to them; I usually smoke the petite cigars, and I got myself some petite Montecristo cigars a couple of days ago. I just need to try to remember not to draw so strongly on them, as I basically inhaled some smoke without realizing it, and I was a bit woozy for about an hour (I don't smoke very often, as you can clearly see. :P ). I defintiely like these ones, and I don't think the price was incredibly bad for petite cigars (I got a tin of 10 for around US $24.00.).

Oh man, I'd love to go to Cuba - not just for the cigars but the place itself looks fantastic.
I'll have to start saving up for a holiday, until then I'm going to see what I can get in the Tobacconist, the sheer smell of walking in there is amazing, enough to want to apply for a job there.
Thanks for all the advice, I don't want this thread to die - more people should throw there information down.
I'm fond of Rum more than any of those others drinks, although I do love some Bourbon now and again, is there a certain type of Whisky I should look out for? I used to work in a bar, so I could probably get whatever I need from the manager of it.
