Yeah, man. No, but seriously, I love the dead. Good for those mellow, mellow times where you have nothing to do and no worries.

i like the dead but only in small doses. i hate hippies so i have to keep reminding myself not to think about the fact that they are all hippies. great musicians though. no band ever played aswell together as they did. my favorite song would be hard to pick but maybe saint stephen or broken down palace. i even like touch of grey

Caller: Why isn’t punk bigger in America?

Sid Vicious: Because you assholes listen to the Grateful Dead, that’s why.

When you really break it down. The Dead weren't really hippies.

Ok, Ok, maybe they kinda were.

But you can't really dislike music based solely on the personality of the people playing it. I think Michael Jackson is a fucking weirdo--but I like his music. I even heard a Charles Manson song that I liked.

Anyone on this board that truly appreciates music will understand what I am saying. Its not about labels and categories. I think Stevie Ray Vaughn said there are only two types of music, good and bad.

The Dead were incredible. Hell the Sex Pistols were incredible. So was Miles Davis. So is Mos Def. So was John Prine. So is Lyle Lovett. So is John Lee Hooker. So was Marvin Gaye. So is Stevie Wonder. So were the Suicidal Tendencies. So were Rage Against the Machine. So was A Tribe Called Quest. So was Townes Van Zandt. So is Bob Dylan. So was Tupac. So was Biggie. So was Billie Holiday. So was Janis Joplin. So was Louis Armstrong. So was Hank Williams. So is Arlo Guthrie. So is the Wu-Tang Clan. So is Kardinal Offishal. So is Talib Kweli. So is J-Live. So is Ben Folds. So was Living Colour. So is Fishbone. So is Prince........

Recommend me a Grateful Dead track or the MP3 player gets it.

I'm not familiar enough with their music to know whether I like them or not, but I'd give my respect to any band that Burning Spear recommends (http://www.che-lives.com/cgi/community/topic.pl?forum=16&topic=790).

So was John Prine
Um...to the best of my knowledge, John Prine is certainly not dead. I went to a concert when I was 6, I was soo excited! Good list though, forgot about 100 people, but that's cool. While we are on the topic on Prine though, have you ever listened to Jimmy Dale Gilmore? I went to a concert last night and he said
:"There is a misunderstanding the world has about us texans, you see, not all Texans agree with George W. Bush" and it was pretty cool man. Also, he was Smoky in The Big Lebowski, a killer Kick Ass movie
