NDP on GM Bailout - "We are all Socialists now."

In the local paper, an article quotes a New Democratic Party MP, Pat Martin, on the GM Bailout - "We are all socialists now. The fact is that we now have Marxism realized. We own the means of production and we did not have to fire a single shot. It is realyl quite phenomenal what went on today."


Goes to show how out of touch the so-called "socialist" parties are with their roots.

This is different from the article I read in that the one I read didn't say he "joked." Given the NDP's history and left-liberal stance, I don't know if "joked" means he is not serious, or that he finds it amusing.

The Canadian NDP are just social-democrats. With the exception of a few entryist Trotskyists, the entire Communist (and Anarchist!) movement is in agreement. When they say the word "socialism" they mean it in their totally reformist and not the least bit revolutionary way.
