I would contact the ACLU if I were you, but I am not sure how easy they are to get on for your case, I know someone locally who was backed by them for freedom of speech when the local high school tried to suspend them for having a bumper sticker with the word "fuck" on it.

ACLU may well ignore you, it depends on whether your case might be a "land-mark" case or not. See, they don't have a huge lot of cash, and can only take certain cases.

My suggestion contact your local activist organisations (or, if you don't have any, local "socialist" or "communist" groups), they might be able to put you in contact with some lawyers, after all, activists get arrested and need lawyers.

In fairness HC's comment wasn't that unfunny. The comic left turn is an absolutely classic tactic but obviously in this case it did fall a little flat.
