Hello there, comrades. I know the WWII was basically a war for imperialist nations, but we all know that ultimately it liberated the Jews under the Nazi regime. So what do we leftists say about it? Should it have been supported, or was it just another imperialist, capitalist war?

Thank you.

The Allies during the war refused to do anything to save Jewish lives, including bombing camps or train tracks. They also refused to open their gates to Jewish refugees, except for the USSR, where said refugees were reduced to starvation and homelessness. It's true that Germany's defeat led to the Jews being freed from the camps; then again, a Nazi victory could have led to liberation for many British colonies due to the British army being unable to repress revolts (that was the rationale for many Arab nationalists to side with Germany).

They also refused to open their gates to Jewish refugees,

Sadly, Canada was one of the worse nations for that. We literally had thousands of Jewish refugees coming to our shores only to be turned down by authorities who still had Anti-Semitic attitudes at the time. They were trying to promote most immigration from England or France. The Prime Minister at the time was even quoted saying, "None is too many." It wasn't until the 1960's or something that immigration restrictions began to loosen up.

I know that the Allied powers indeed fought for their imperialist aims, and that they refused to accept Jewish refugees. I acknowledge all of that. Yet I wonder: what would have been the accurate response to a rising Nazi power? Just theoretically. I know we can't change the past.

The allies did nothing to aid the elements in the German Army that plotted to overthrow Hitler through a military coup. Yes the German generals that were planning a military coup were reactionary and had no intention in even reforming capitalism but they had no plans in enslaving/killing Jews or starting WWII.

It was worse than that. Canada actually didn't allow Jews into its borders until 1956 because the Canadian ruling class believed that all the Jews are Bolsheviks. It took the 1956 war against Egypt by Israel, France and Britain to convince them, among others, that some Jews are trustworthy.

Yehuda Stern basically summed it up. However, I'd like to add that Jews aren't necessarily "liberated" just because they aren't being exterminated in Nazi death camps.

Similar to what Nazis believe actually. Canada had a Nazi government?

Anti-Semitic attitudes are by no means limited to Nazi Germany.

That's true, here is a long article from the "Spiegel" magazine about Hitler's European holocaust helpers (http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,625824,00.html) which is about the inglorious role of conquered and allied countries of Nazi Germany. This article caused huge protests from eastern European governments, especially from Poland, because they argued, Germans want to present themselves as innocent which is, of course, ridiculous, but as the article outlines: Without Hitler, his vicious ideology, the SS and the support of the Germans the holocaust would have been unimaginable but without the help of huge parts of the European population it would have been impracticable.
