Urgent alert - Diana and Marcelo must stay in London
Diana and Marcelo are two Bolivians who came to Britain in March 2005. They had been involved in demonstrations and political activity in Bolivia, most notably in the mass demonstrations against privatisation in 2003. Later in the year that they came to London , Evo Morales was elected as President and Bolivia began moving the country in a more progressive direction. Diana and Marcelo are supporters of the current government; however because of their previous activity, right-wing anti-government paramilitaries have targeted them by name. This is the basis of their claim for asylum in Britain
On 27 May Diana and Marcelo were detained at Communications House when they went to sign on there. They are currently in Yarls Wood Immigration Removal Centre and have been given removal directions for a flight to Brazil on Tuesday 2 June.
We are asking people to fax the UK Borders Agency to demand that Diana and Marcelo are not deported on Tuesday. A fresh asylum claim has just been submitted on their behalf and they have just instructed a new solicitor, who is putting in an application for bail. They must be allowed to stay while this legal process takes place.
Phone UK Border Agency on 020 7324 6622 (during the working day) or 0161 261 1640 (out of hours number). Faxes can be sent to 020 7324 6651
