I'm not sure if you heard but theirs this craze about a new supplement , called the acai berry . Its naturally occuring , has antidioxants and what not etc .
So recently my mom bought some from a guy who brought some home from Brasil and has been crazy about the stuff and is trying to get me to start on it .
However this sounds like far too dodgy for my liking as it claims to do so many random things such as increasing your sexual drive , improving sleeping patterns , helping you lose weight , lower cholesteral , improves brain ability , increases focus ,killing 86% of cancer cells(this one is actually proven apparently).More claims say it can reverse diabeties and other chronic illnesses and also , yes it can (or so they say) enlarge penis size .
However it is still not approved by the FDA and is not sold in Ireland and UK pharmacies as far as I know
Yet millions of people are using this. What do people think ?
Personally I'm not touching this Oprah Winfrey endorsed stuff with a ten foot poll because A) It sounds like a crock of sh*t and would much prefer some good old fashioned chemically enhanced vitamens and B) because im 9 stone( 1 and 1/2 stone underweight) as it is .

I had a hippie roommate who was selling the stuff - he talked about it's cure-all properties like that stoner kid at every high school who tells you how smoking pot actually improves your memory, keeps you healthy, cures addiction, makes you a brilliant guitar player, whitens your teeth, and can solve the economic crisis.
I told him to pass the join and keep his purple frozen acai drink the hell away from me.
The stuff left bright purple stains all over our refrigerator.

I think... smoke pot if it's fun for you, eat acai if you like it or it provides the vitamins you need (it's dark as all hell, so it probably is rich in something... purpleness?) and ride a bike if you enjoy it and can get you where you need to go. Otherwise, don't tell me your bike-riding, acai eating, and pot-smoking is going to save the world.

Acai Berry is just the latest "superfood" promoted by new age gurus to sell to yuppies. Sure, Acai Berry might be good for you, but it's not going to work any wonders. Be suspect of any claims made by companies selling it, remember that they're just trying to build hype to sell more product.

You know, eating "typical" fruit and vegetables is just as good for you and much cheaper.

The people who flog this shit have no fucking shame whatsoever. If acai berries really do "kill 86% of cancer cells" (whatever that's supposed to mean), then oncologists would be all over that shit.

Its loaded with sugar. So I dont see how they are peddling how it helps you lose weight. Anything that converts to sugar and is high carb is bad news for me. Thanks but no thanks.
Grapes and strawberries have more antioxidant potency than acai berries. I guess it's playing on all these weird new age views about medicine and healing, indigenous cures etc.
Acai berries. The only noticable thing it does to me is fill up my inbox with spam. Perhaps you're supposed to lose weight by clicking the delete button repeatedly?

I started using it a couple days ago. I heard it was a natural way to stabilize moods (I'm bipolar). I wouldn't use the one marketed for weight loss as many contain other ingredients (such as green tea extract which isn't advisable to consume in pill form). *IF* it does help you lose weight, I imagine it's because the acai berry is full of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Health creates an optimum environment for weight loss. However, a balanced diet would have the same benefits (if not more as it is well known it's better to eat your vitamins than swallow them).

The best way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. Also it has to be a permanent change in one's lifestyle, if one wants the weight loss to be permanent.

Hurling yourself off a bridge so you no longer burden society with your fatness is also a good one to consider.

The açaí "berry" is promoted by a deadly combination of greedy fruit companies and the kind of people who previously e-mailed you about penis enlargement pills and human pheromone sprays. What more needs to be said?
Edit: oh, and Oprah (http://www.oprah.com/article/health/nutrition/life_acai).
Acai berry is a scam.
Just eat less and exercise, it's working for me.
My diet is low-fat, moderate protein, high-carb. I am VERY averse to the idea of a low-carb diet, though I'm not judgemental if someone's on it. I just think by limiting the amount of carbs you eat, you're going to extremes, a lot of people complain about limiting fat intake, but to me limiting carbs would be so much harder, although I avoid sugary foods, which is a kind of carb, a simple one though.
