Well personally I feel this was a sad yr 4 music, with a few highlights
Lets start with the good stuff, Nirvana realise gr8est hits only 2 make courney love richer but @ least a gr8 band like Nirvana now have a gr8est hits.
NOFX, Dropkick Murpheys, H8breed, Tool, S.O.A.D & Incubus all vist lil ole NZ (luv 2 hear frm ne1 who saw thse dudes live)
Sadly we lose 2 gr8 legends of punk DeeDee Ramone & Joe Sturmer, as well as the lead singer of rock/metal band Drowning Pool (temporaly 4got his name) which I feel were a gr8 band movin on 2 big things fortunatly they r carrying on.
Thats the important stuff, plz excuse my many spelling mistakes & other mistakes im a lil sleepy & havnt had brekie yet.
Jst 1 more thing b4 I go eat, I was outraged the other day 2 hear that Avril Lavine has done a acoustic cover of Systems Chop Suey, the ***** can barely write her own songs let alone cover anything good like System.
haha hope u enjoyed my rambilings

What the fuck are you talking about, man? That cover of Chop Suey is the best song I've ever heard from Avril Lavigne. If she had a whole album that sounded like that, I'd pick it up immediately. She should ALWAYS sing like that.

Michael De Panama

Yeah, and I like ridiculous sounding things. As long as I'm entertained, I think the music serves it's purpose. And that little cover of Chop Suey entertained the fuck out of me.

That sounds good! lol, Britney sucks, although I have to admit she didn't do a bad job on "I lvoe Rock n roll", she just has no credibility, a bit like Avril, the ***** I love to hate (actually i hate to hate, but hate to love so I'll hate her).
Avril just drives me up the wall, she makes me sick in too many ways to mention. i actually listened to all of skater boy just to check out the lyrics and they are foul! How can you write such crap?!!! She just stands there gloating and you cannot gloat over guys, you just do not do it unless you have no self-respect and you want everyone to hate you. I know it's only a song but even so, it still gets me.
What was good over 2002? QOTSA's last album was great, feeder's new album is really good from what I've heard of it, it's very different from their previous stuff, you can really hear the impact that John's death had on them. I also loved "Hey gravity" by mass (reached number 2 i think in Peel's festive fifty on radio 1). Eminem also did some good stuff for 8 mile, but it's a bit overplayed.
The low points have to be Avril, britney and J-Lo, and blue.

Dude, your forgetting LAYNE STALEY.
Layne's been a vegetable for so long with his heroin addiction that his death really went by uncared about. Sad, really. He had one of the best rock voices of all time.
How can you people say that a Weezer cover of a Britney Spears song sounds good, but an Avril Lavigne cover of a System Of A Down song doesn't? Weezer is absolute soulless shit these days. Why must everyone cry about Avril Lavigne? What does she do? Make music you people don't like? Just pull the stick out of your ass and laugh about it. Quit complaining.

I agree with all that and please can you sort out your typing! You are probably going to get on people's nerves if you can't type properly!
I think Sugarcoma did a pretty cool cover of Britney's Crazy, anyone heard it?
By the way, I'm not a huge fan of covers but they are quite amusing, especially when it's ok bands covering pop, really good bands rarely do covers, they have enough original stuff!!!

hey man, you're forgetting all the great grunge bands during the early 90s. My theory is that every band formed after 1995 sucks. there were good years for music after that year, sure, but they were all by bands formed previous to 1995. Avril Lavigne
"Losing Grip"
Are you aware of what you make me feel, baby
Right now I feel invisible to you, like I'm not real
Didn't you feel me lock my arms around you
Why'd you turn away?
Here's what I have to say I was left to cry there,
waiting outside there grinning with a lost stare
That's when I decided
[chorus]
Why should I care
Cause you weren't there when I was scared I was so alone
You, you need to listen I'm starting to trip,
I'm losing my grip and I'm in this thing alone
Am I just some chick you place beside you to take somebody's place
when you turn around can you recognize my face you used to love me,
you used to hug me
But that wasn't the case
Everything wasn't ok I was left to cry there
waiting outside there grinning with a lost stare
That's when I decided
[chorus]
Crying out loud I'm crying out loud
Crying out loud I'm crying out loud
Open your eyes
Open up wide
Why should I care
Cause you weren't there
when I was scared I was so alone Why should I care
Cause you weren't there when I was scared I was so alone
Why should I care
If you don't care then I don't care were not going anywhere
Why should I care because you weren't there when I was scared I was so alone
Why should I care If you don't care then i don't care were not going anywhere
Dashboard Confessional
"Saints and Sailors"
This is where I say I've had enough
and no one should ever feel the way that I feel now.
A walking open wound,
a trophy display of bruises
and I don't believe that I'm getting any better.
Waiting here with hopes the phone will ring
and I'm thinking awful things
and I'm pretty sure that few would notice.
And this apartment
is starving for an argument.
Anything at all to break the silence.
Wandering the house
like I've never wanted out
and this is about as social as I get now.
And I'm throwing away the letters that I am writing you
'cause they would never do,
I would never do.
So don't be a liar,
don't say that "everything's working"
when everything's broken.
And you smile like a saint
but you curse like a sailor
and your eyes say the joke's on me.
The way I see it, Dashboard Confessional's lyrics are pretty much the same thing as Avril Lavigne's. It's the exact same emotion. Skinny white kids have been singing inane girly love songs over acoustic guitars practically since the birth of music. There's nothing hardcore about it.
ALL punk rock has emotion, even pop-punk.
If it doesn't have emotion, they call it "garage rock".

Oh dear, this is gonna be a long one.
Mikey,
"What exactly is 'true emo'?"
http://www.fourfa.com
"Garth Brooks is emotional. Can he be considered true emo?"
If you want. Doesn't concern me.
"The way I see it, Dashboard Confessional's lyrics are pretty much the same thing as Avril Lavigne's. It's the exact same emotion."
Yep. DC suck in my opinion. That shit ain't emo, it's indie-pop. I have no time for it.
"Skinny white kids..."
I was unaware that being skinny and white was a crime.
"...inane girly love songs..."
I quite like songs about emotion, personally.
"...over acoustic guitars..."
Check out some of the music listed on that link I sent you. Also, check out Far, Funeral for a Friend, Coheed and Cambria, Pretty Girls Make Graves and other stuff for the modern emo sound. Hear an acoustic guitar??
"There's nothing hardcore about it."
Listen to Fugazi, Dag Nasty, Rites of Spring and even screamo bands such as Glassjaw and The Used. That has hardcore in it.
IB4C,
"Emo is hardcore punk with emotional lyrics."
Originally, yes.
"....bands such as (and these are just MTV examples):"
ie bad examples.
"Weezer"
No. Weezer aren't emo at all.
"Cio Cio San"
Who??
"Dashboard Confessional"
Um...kinda. They're not what I mean when I say I'm an emo fan though. Like I said, I hate DC.
"...see?"
Frankly, no. Sorry darlin.
"Emo IS punk-a sub cat."
Well yes, I guess. I like to consider emo and punk two different things though.
MitRS,
"nothing punk about emo."
Right. OK then. Another pearl of wisdom our resident embodiment of faux-pas. I recommend you listen to some of the above bands.
"hey would you guys consider somking popes as emo..??"
Somking Popes?? Who the fuck?? I haven't even heard of Smoking Popes...
Canikickit,
"I am absolutely, one-hundred percent in favour of putting inane boundries on every aspect of sonic entertainment. That way we will always be clear about where we stand on the social chain, and our contemporaries and peers will be able to identify us, and we them.
There is no point in any kind of over-lapping in this catagorising of the planet; we all know that the world is black and white, right and wrong, truths and falsehoods...."
Good point.
Left for Dead,
"in my opinion emo is a false music genre, it is saying that only "emo"-esque music has emotion??? Ah, yes, I'm sure none of the music genres before emo became itself a genre had no emotion..."
This argument is often presented. In some ways emo is seen as a stupid term, and to an extent I agree it is. However, emo was originally used to differentiate from punk back in the 80s as the two had similar sounds but different lyrics. Punk bands were preoccupied with socio-political and offensive lyrics, while emo bands concentrated on emotionally touching lyrics. Now it's become somewhat twisted, and many "emo" bands use inane lyrics and even more inane music.
"and, please, those emo shows just bore me, a bunch of girly guys and girls staring at the band like they just had a lobotomy... please... shoot me..."
True, in a way. Dashboard Confessional shows are gonna be as boring as fuck. Finch are excellent live though, and Jimmyeatworld don't put on a bad show either.
Harriet,
"Well according to Radio 1 and Steve Lamacq..."
Bad source of information. Go to the above link too.
"...emo is stuff like Jimmy Eat World, it's emotive punk..."
Surprisingly enough, they're right. Don't make a habit of taking what Radio 1 says as true though. ;)
"Also emo is basically a guy thing because girls are naturally more emotive..."
I was once told that "girls can't be emo, cos emo is boys being girls". That's true to an extent, but some of the best modern day emo bands have female members (Coheed and Cambria and Pretty Girls Make Graves being just two examples).
"...so Avril ain't emo and dashboard is."
Um...OK. I won't get involved.
"However I don't really like emo."
Silly person.
"I didn't know you liked coldplay, you going soft on us?!"
It's just their new album makes me cry. It is nigh on perfect. I bought it for me Mum for Christmas, but I listen to it more myself.

Well, hmmmm.
I think Coldplay have slightly sold out and I don't think there's enough variation, their second album, what I've heard, is so similar to their first album, but if you like it then I won't hold it against you
Like, I said I'm not the greatest emo fan, but this is because I'm not a huge fan. I've heard some glassjaw and I liked that, but I'm disappointed by Cosmopolitan Bloodloss, it just seems to be missing something. I am also not overwhelmed by The Used, maybe that's cos Kelly O's going out with the vocalist, maybe I just don't think they're mind kind of thing, I dunno, I don't analyse but those two things come to mind.
And aren't most songs about emotion? It's normally love, hate, despair, emotion of some sort, and occasionally it's political or novelty. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I reckon emotion comes into most music.
Also, great things about 2002 has to include Feeder's new stuff, I really admire that band, they deserve a lot of respect for the last year. John's death was truly tragic but they've brought some great music out of it.

the site gr mentioned pretty much sums up what emo is, everyone should looks at it.
true emo, at least what i consider it to be after being an emo geek for while are bands like rites of spring, embrace and nation of ulysess (post-minor threat, pre-fugazi). i wouldn't call fuagzi an emo band just because they hate the "label." they're really more of a post-punk band, as well as pretty girls make graves.
smoking popes define the genre just as well as jawbreaker or sunnyday real estate, fuck maybe as well as texas is the reason.
weezer aren't emo, they never were. they're just a rock band with indie appeal.
cio cio sans....uh...emo? i don't know about that one. i would say indie before i would say emo.
i love far, but i would say they were more hardcore before, jonah's new stuff is more emo. check out onelinedrawing and new end originals.
jimmyeatworld...new album not emo. emo jimmy would be stati. the new stuff is way too pussy, with the exception of the first song.
bottom line is...emo is just a term for music like everything else. it will be an mtv and rolling stones phase just like every other genre. every high school boy will pick up they're dc or jimmy record and start a band in they're garage, buy a pair of converse and black rimmed glasses, write lyrics about they're girlfreinds, cry a little in front of the mirror just to make themselves get really emotional and then they'll get over it and hop of the next bandwagon (listen to jimmy's new aesthetic, a bit ironic). fuck even glam rock got it's 15 mintues. that was suppose to be kinda funny, but whatever...emo is pretty cool if you're listening to the right bands.

"I've heard some glassjaw and I liked that, but I'm disappointed by Cosmopolitan Bloodloss, it just seems to be missing something."
Cosmopolitan Bloodloss is a fine song. If you dislike it, then I suggest that emo and hardcore really aren't for you.

"nothing punk about emo."
Right. OK then. Another pearl of wisdom our resident embodiment of faux-pas. I recommend you listen to some of the above bands.
"hey would you guys consider somking popes as emo..??"
Somking Popes?? Who the fuck?? I haven't even heard of Smoking Popes...
embodiment of faux pas...? ok then

2003's going to be great. There's two new Fantomas albums, a new Tomahawk album, a new Radiohead album, Zack De La Rocha's solo CD, a brand new Janes Addiction album after over 10 years since Ritual De Lo Habitual's release, possibly a new Perfect Circle album due out, a new King Crimson album, all this great stuff.
Two new Fantomas albums, man! Double the pleasure of Mike Patton!

And most importantly, a new Dillinger Escape Plan album.

Who exactly are Thievery Corperation. There is a remix by them of a fantastic song (Max Romeo's I Chase the Devil, as sampled by the Prodigy) available on Kazaa, and I've often wondered what it would be like.

OK, I've changed my mind, call my fickle if you want, but Audioslave have suddenly begun to grow on me, I can't get enough! Damn, another CD I have to buy!
I actually quite like TATU, I thought I'd really dislike them, but apparently they've got another song which is more Prodigy like and sounds like it'll be great. Apparently they've split up though and they originally released the single that's currently all over UK radio about 2 years ago, oh well, I still like it.
I'm really looking forward to the new Radiohead album, when someone hears it they have to tell me what it's like.
I also think it will be quite a big year for Hell is for Heroes cos their next single is all over the radio, but i prefer their previous one. Has anyone heard the album? And has anyone heard of the Transplants? they've got a cool single coming out soon but their album can only be bouhgt in specialist shops cos it hasn't been released in the UK

you're not helping me with dammed british irony.
you're making about as much sense to me as a drunk turtle.
what the hell is faux paus? is that your british way of spelling fox paws?
Here, I have made a sentence for you. see if you can translate it.
You are obviously not following the demanding features of gristle-x-ogre bogs. Discussing various topics without headings and properly labeling them before eating without ingenious incentive.

Completely crossed my mind. I wouldn't say that's more important than Fantomas or Tomahawk, though, man. I mean, Mike Patton won't be on it. That makes all the difference.
You know, I should just say that Ipecac Records in general is going to be crazy this year. Crazy!
MiTRS, it's pronounced "foe pah", first off. It's not British, it's a part of the English language. Obviously, yes, he IS comparing you to fox paws.

People, people. We all know the best thing about 2002 was the new DANZIG album. Theres no point in arguing. :)

BLASPHEMY!!!!! ;)
Well, it really depends. I agree that Danzig and the Misftis were the best when they were together (Earth A.D. is most definitely the fuckin high point in their careers) but most of Danzig's solo stuff is fuckin sweet. Im not as much a fan of the Misfits without Danzig though, some of their stuff is quite cheesy.

Harriet,
"I also think it will be quite a big year for Hell is for Heroes cos their next single is all over the radio, but i prefer their previous one. Has anyone heard the album?"
I've heard about half the tracks off it. It's an above-average emo-rock album. I love Nightvision and I Can Climb Mountains though. I'm seeing them live in a in couple of weeks...
"And has anyone heard of the Transplants?"
Yeah The Transplants are cool. They are the only thing that has anything at all with Blink 182 to even remotely resemble quality.
MitRS,
"you're not helping me with dammed british irony."
Ah man...that's beautiful. MitRS is like our little runt or something.
Mike,
"I'm the one with the fucking Avril Lavigne avatar here."
Really?? Still has the Epic fish to me...

Has anyone heard the transplants album? I'm actually considering buying it but I don't expect it will be cheap as it's an import.
Mike, why do you have an avril avatar? Please tells me it's irony!!!!
Michael De Panama
12th January 2003, 04:00
The avatar is just for me to get my kicks on all the people who are superficial enough about their music to react to it and, for instance, make an anti-Avril avatar to respond to it.
Oh yeah, and becuz Avril iz so kewl.
