Subject: 90 years on: What are the lessons of the German Revolution?
Location: 11th floor, 44 East 32nd Street, Manhattan. Between Park Ave and Madison Ave. Nearest subway: 33 St. Train # 6
In the series on the German Revolution of 1918-19 in our International Review (http://en.internationalism.org/taxonomy/term/503) we have showed how, after the collapse of the Socialist International faced with World War I, the tide turned in favour of the proletariat, culminating in the November Revolution of 1918, which, like the October Revolution in Russia the previous year, was the high point of an uprising against the imperialist war. Whereas October represented the first mighty blow of the working class against the "Great War", it was the action of the German proletariat which finally brought it to an end.
The aim of this meeting is to draw the lessons from this great experience of the proletariat, which was extremely rich -- for instance on the nature of the unions, parliamentary action, and social democracy, as well as on the mass strike and the role of revolutionaries -- lessons that will be of burning relevance to the struggles ahead of us.
There will be a presentation from the ICC followed by several hours of open discussion. All welcome.
