Well, to be honest I'm only back with this shitty little thread to ask if anyone likes them...
I imagine maybe GR would... It's hard to find their albums on Kazaa which sucks... but sometimes they are really good... when I'm angry... (but that doesn't happen too often... usually I'm just sad... ;) )

(I'm such a narcissistic little whiny *****....)

I like them! One of my favorite bands at all, although I usually don't listen to electronic music.

Hey Malte, don't you think it's incredibly stupid that 'the future of war' got banned here in germany?

Alec Empire speaks on the banning of ATARI TEENAGE RIOT's "Future Of War" in Germany!

The record Future Of War by my band ATARI TEENAGE RIOT was placed on the index in Germany on the 8th of May 2002. To keep a long story short, this means it is forbidden to sell this music in public.

The record was released worldwide in spring 1997 and has sold about 200.000 units. When international artists, for example the Beastie Boys (who released the record on their own label Grand Royal for the U.S.) or Beck (who, after he heard the record once, invited the band to support him on his U.S.-tour) explored our music, this record got huge attention and recognition because of it‘s left-rooted crtitque of the "modern" high-tech-war, as we had seen it all some years previously during the Gulf War.

It‘s a warning of a Germany that strategically ignores it‘s own hostility towards foreigners (as well as the inherent anti-Semitism and racism) because of its over-ambitious national pride, and therefore tolerates the crimes and violence committed by the extreme right and neo-nazis.

The international media welcomed the musically and lyrically clear signal from a Germany which was more famous during that time for skinheads and the regular burning of asylum homes. This record is a call for change, and the kind of emotion and rage expressed on there was seen as absolutely necessary.

We are frightened and angered about the ban of the record in Germany. In my eyes, musicians, artists, authors and film makers have the duty to criticise, to have visions and to speak about subject, that others would like to remain silent about. You can always criticise, discuss and argue about the individual artistic approach and method - and at the end of the day that’s what it is all about!

This is not a matter of taste; this is about the freedom to form and express one’s own opinions as well as artistic freedoms. A lot of people in our society seem to have forgotten how important these basic rights are.

To all those who perceive this as a "marketing campaign“ I can only say this: The record is almost six years old and we don`t expect any sudden chart positions (this isn’t possible at all, remember: The record is banned on the index). So why are we going public?

Because laws and censorships like this kind of thing have the potential to one day be applied to all parts of the media until it is impossible to publish independent reporting and to criticise in public (watch Italy).

Whether you like this record or not, you must understand that it is wrong that it is placed on the index.

Deutschland has gotta die!

Deutschland has gotta die... {eins, zwei, drei, vier !!!}
Wake up ! Wake up ! Get off your knees...
Where will the west strike next ?
The war is still between east and west...
Money talks ! Money !!! You're so bored and sick !
Lets burn germany !
Building up economy of dead bodies ! That's what they want !

We react very strongly to tranquilizers you know...

I need a diversion for a silent escape ! Harder ! Faster !
You know what they're after
You haven't suffered the same as I have !
Sensless neverending terror !!!
We make em nervous... We make em nervous...

Deutschland has gotta die !
Wake up ! Wake up ! Get off your spleen !
What will the west strike next ?
The war is still between east and west Money talks Money knows
You're so bored and sick !
Let's burn Deutschland !!!!!!!

The bloody wankers tried to pull us down...
Blow'em up ! Blow'em up !
The bloody wankers try to pull us down but
We're gonna smash them in !!!!!!!!

The time is right to fight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess this is the song why they banned the album. :)

A nice little story about ATR from 1999: :)

ATARI TEENAGE RIOT were arrested in Berlin after fighting broke out at an anti-war/anti-fascist rally they were playing at.
The band were performing at the rally in the Kreuzberg area of the city on May 1 when fighting broke out between police and the 30,000 protesters.

ATR were in the middle of their set when the violence erupted.

Frontman Alec Empire told NME: "This policeman was running into the crowd and beating this punk on the head with a stick. There was a point when it got so reckless that police attacked people without any reason. The police went for such brutality it was unbelievable."

Rally organisers Anti-Fascist Action repeatedly asked the police to stop the violence during breaks in ATR's set, but the clashes escalated.

Eventually police cut the band's power and arrested around 160 people including ATR's Alec Empire, Nic Endo and Carl Crack. The three members of ATR were arrested for "inciting violence against police".

Empire said: "They cut the power off and we were like, 'No, fuck, not now!', because we wanted to play 'Start The Riot', but I suppose the riot was already happening so we didn't need to play it any more."

Soon after their arrest, the band made contact with Anti-Fascist Action lawyers and were released from custody later that day. It is unlikely any charges will be pressed.

It is the first time ATR have taken part in the annual rally, traditionally held as an anti-fascist event but this year also used as a means of protesting against NATO's bombing of Serbia.

Empire said: "It's unbelievable the role that England, Germany and America are trying to play in this conflict. These bombings are responsible for most of the people leaving Kosovo. In a way they are making the situation much worse and the majority of people are agreeing to these bombs."

ATR are now planning more protests against the war in their native Germany.

How come, GR?

I'm not really a fan of electronica. To me, hardcore or noisecore has to have some kinda beauty to it, be it in its pulsating guitar lines or sudden dynamics. ATR is just a load of random beeps imo.

their song on the Spawn soundtrack was good, and they did it with Roni Size, who is awesome. On the subject of censored music, is there any in the U.S.A?

Censored music in the US?

How about Cop Killer and some 2 Live Crew music? I'm not sure if they were eventually banned, but there was a shitload of controversy around them.

To be precise, the song isn't really censored in the way that you'll be punished if you listen to it. It's just forbidden to sell and advertise it publicly beacuse of "youth protection".

Haven't heard much by ATR except "No Remorse (I Wanna Die)" by them and Slayer. That song is the shit.

I love ATR. I've seen Alec Empire live... which is, unfortunately, as close as I will get to seeing ATR live with Carl being dead and all. :(

ATR's lyrics just make me laugh though. They're so over the top and funny cos English isn't their first language.
