View Full Version : Method Man - Good MC, but what are his beliefs?

I was just wondering if anyone had the definite word on what the hell Method Man actually believes? I've seen him referred to as anti-capitalist but he is running a business empire, I've also heard he was a Muslim but drinking forties and smoking blunts and rapping about murder is hardly the kind of behavior one would expect from a religious person.
His rhymes contain some strange and often contradicting clues. So, anyway, let's discuss it

Yeah, I know he's sucked badly for the past few years, but I recently re-listened to 36 Chambers and there's some fine shit on there.
I'll be sure to pick up some MOS and Kweli though, The Coup are also mucho cool, wish they would have been allowed to publish that WTC cover.

WTC cover would have thrown them through the roof. To bad they weren't still with their Indie Label. Damn Elektra.

Method Man is cool, but yeah, he has gone off track of late. I know he is against terrorism or somethin, cuz Wu-Tang rapped something about the PLO and Pakistan (probably has nothin to do with it) and WTC towers. Michael Franti is the left-wing rapper if you ask me, but the best rapper in Nas. The Coup had an awesome cover on their June 2001 album, called Party somethin with the two towers being bombed (fuck patriotism, but hell, I'm not American). A cool anti-patriotic song is "My country" by Nas, but he isn't that poliitcal really. No offence, but most political rappers aren't very good.

Didn't Method Man have a song called PLO style? Also, I think he used the phrase "PLO Style" on 36 Chambers and ODB chimes in with: "I'm Old Dirty Bastard, a terrorist"
Maybe I was just too stoned when I was listening to it in the old days ;)

Yeah, he does have a song called "P.L.O. Style", it wasn't anti-terrorist in the slightest as far as I remember, it was comparing his hardman-ness to the P.L.O.
But, anyway, I think Method Man is great, I don't really give a fuck what his beliefs are. I like some of his songs with Redman as well, I thought their album together was pretty good.

I heard Nas is running with Murder Inc. now. What a fine example of a conscious MC, those Murder Inc boys and girls are real political.
