I have my shopping cart up on revbooks right now, which Bob Avakian book should I buy? This will be my first introduction to his work, I want to understand MLM as Avakian/RCP see it.

I'm fairly sure that the OP already knows that quite a few of us don't exactly like the RCP.

Don't waste your money. If you really that interested in MLM in how Avakian/RCP sees it, just visit their website and read the countless number of articles and essays.

Blackstone, you forgot to tell the OP to say a prayer and light a candle to this saint while he is at it.

Yes cause learning something about Avakian is automatically being a cultist. I have books by Avakian.
I'd say preaching from a pulpet of bones is one of his interesting contributions.

It's pretty sad (and says a whole fucking lot about the people and culture here at RL) to see people dismiss Avakian's writings on the basis of "not liking them." I mean, here is a comrade who is clearly excited to read and learn all he can. This is how you respond? What if he wanted to read the anarchist cookbook or some trotsky book? This is the correct way to be close-minded, dogmatic, and basically useless.
Do I "like" Avakian? No. I think many of his theories are erroneous, and his trend represents problems facing the wider revolutionary left. But we need to encourage people to read all they can and by every author possible.
A lot of people here have the naive understanding that Marx or Lenin or Trotsky or Mao were theoreticians that only drew from other marxist insights. If it werent for the countless non-marxist/revolutionary thinkers and philosophers, Marxism would be nothing more than a tight-nit, blind substance. Not that I don't think Avakian is a revolutionary, but that it's important to engage those outside the marxist tradition and periphery.
And also, why wouldnt someone be interested in MLM? Its theories guided the chinese revolution, inspired other revolutionaries around the world (including the US), and is the basis for other mass revolutionary movements today.
cmoney: I encourage you to read Avakian's earlier works on the chinese revolution because of how it lays a foundation to understand the restoration of capitalism in china. I'm not sure what to specifically recommend, just read what interests you. There are loads of his works online.
come back and tell us what you think of Avakian, and let's discuss it. :)

A while ago. I should probably brush up on it, but I think I have a decent understanding. What I really need to review is Lenin, but I'm more interested in the RCP right now.

I heard that Phony Communism is Dead! Long Live Real Communism! is pretty good. I've only read and listened to online articles. He has a lot of good contributions, but I can't say I align with him enough to be a Revolutionary Communist Party supporter.

Oh for fucks sake, can people who have nothing better to say than accusations of "cultists" or whatever, just shut up and don't post anything. It really inhibits discussion.

I haven't read any of Avakian's works, although I did hear him speak in this one video with Malcom X (I think it was him), and I thought it was pretty good.
