Stop The War are going to release a compilation of anti-war songs. It will include Billy Bragg, Seize The Day, Ginger Tom, Alabama 3, Chumbwamba, Ani Difranco, etc.
If I made up my own CD, what songs should I put on it?

I agree with IHP, When I first saw this post Billy Bragg first came to my head, either MY Youngest Son Came Home Today, or the Marching song of the covert battalions, both are on the Internationale album

WAR by Bob Marley
another great one
This is kind of pro-War, if you think about it.
Like Peter Tosh said; "We don't want peace, we want equal rights and justice."
Floyd.

Buffalo soldier by Bob Marley also talked about the plight of the soldier and the slave. Rebel by Lauryn Hill talks about a personal rebellion and fighting the war within so as to fight the one outside. I can't think of anything else to relate it too. Sorry.

Canikickit,
At first I agreed with what you said but when I think about it some more this is what I get...
In my opinion Bob is saying that until human rights are respected by governments WAR will exist between governments (out for their own selfish goals)... and that the people will decide to rebel against this (peacefully or militantly? I dont know...maybe a little bit of both for all I know)
At its core WAR is an anti-war song that acknowledges that human rights must prevail... and if they do not there will always be conflict (WAR).
Not the kind of War that Bu$h is trying to push.. Bob is trying to find justice for the people in an unjust world in which most leaders dont give a damn...

Well, I thikn the quote from peter says a lot. i agree that it has anti-War sentiments, but I believe he was saying, there will be a war against the oppressors.
It is both anti war and pro war at the same time. It is complex.

I'm sure you are aware that it was originally a speech to the UN by Haile Selassie. Anyway, you can download the speech here (http://www.dubroom.org/rastafari) (if you want).

heh, I don't know many people who like A3 :)
Even though they have some really churchy songs most of the other ones are pretty good (Hypo full of love, Bourgeoise Bules, Mao Tse Tung said change must come, etc.).
