The elections for the Indian parliament has thrown up huge setbacks for the left . From an alltime high of 60 (out of 543)seats in 2004 we have reached a near two decade low of 24. The left's efforts to cobble up a third alternative against the ruling Indian National Congress (centrist, neo liberal) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP, Right Wing, neo liberal) has been defeated.

What is the way forward for left in India? Is CPI(M) (Communist Party of India(Marxist)) a true representative of leftist movement? How can left movement expand beyond the traditional strongholds of Kerala and Bengal?

Is this the same CPI(M) that has carried out neoliberal policies in several state governments? If so, such a setback should be hardly surprising.

I think I can understand why those guys decide to call themselves 'post-left' now.
