So anybody listens to them? They are too much cool. Finnish metal mixed with incredible singer Tarja (she also sings in opera if i am not mistaken). Melodies that make me totally insane.

I've been meaning to answer to this thread. I agree. Nightwish is amazing. Much better than most other black metal out there nowadays.

Actually they dont play black metal, they are more like power and progressive metal. ;) They are not better than MOST bands, theyre the best in my opinion. And believe me, i ve heard a lot of different bands in my short life... i can feel the life everywhere listening to them... only Elvenking can be compared with them in this element. Get their music (both Nightwish and Elvenking), you wont regret it.

Yeah, Nightwish are cool.

I can't say that they're the best, but that's just an opinion.

I think it sounds like Black Metal, just different vocals(at least, if you compare it to the stuff I listen).

I agree. It sounds like black metal but with diferent vocals. I like it better than the ordinary screaching chilidish sounding vocals.

united, I already have a couple cd's of both.

Oh tralala, I've been fanatic since '97, when the first album released. (Was it '97? Something like that anyway.)

And their music keep in so much memories. Happy and sad.

I didn't quite like the Ceuntury Child. It was good, yes, but sounds like repeating the others.

Tarja was through "Sibelius academy", one of the best music academys here in Finland. So, no wonder it sounds so good. :)

Tarja's a selfish, pretentious asshole but the music still kicks ass...

I thought they had split up or something, but meh, I suppose the music is ok.

Fucking Signed!
If you´re looking for symphonic metal, you only need Bal-Sagoth.

I love this Opera Metal band with such darkness and embrace of beauty!

I adore them, even if Tarja has a face like a man.

To anybody who calls Nightwish overrated: Shut up and listen to Tenth Man Down on the EP "Over the Hills and Far Away". It's one of the best metal songs ever, and it's a fucking shame it was only released on an obnoxiously expensive (via the capitalist method...lol) EP.

The song is okay, I like the change of tempo and the riff in the middle of the song. But I´m sure as hell that it isn´t one of the best metal songs ever. And Nightwish is still overrated...
If you want good and original Symphonic Metal with awesome riffs, listen to Symphony X or Bal-Sagoth.

Not even close to the best metal song ever, from one of the most mediocre metal bands ever.

I can think of litterally hundreds of better songs and dozens of better bands.

Nightwish are nothing remotely special.

What you think of Nightwish's music will depend in large part on how much you like metal, what you like in terms of vocals, and what subgenres of metals you like. The only bad thing about Nightwish is that the only other fan I know personally listens to tons of nu-metal crap and is a hardcore NASCAR fan (which is funny because he's politically very left-wing).

That being said, the Over the Hills and Far Away EP is actually damn good leftist music (if you like female-fronted symphonic metal): I picture innocent American and Chinese political prisoners when I hear Over the Hills and Far Away and I picture the suffering brought about by decades of American, Soviet, and Chinese warmongering and imperialism when I listen to Tenth Man Down.

Nevermore - This Godless Endeavour

And on the open road we came to a sign
For it was foretold that the weak would inherit
And nothing would change
Here we are at the crossroads, standing face to back
Still afraid to see our eyes
I feel helpless and alone, trapped on the third stone

Sitting here sideways on a cold stone floor
My guitar gently bleeding and wanting more
When I heard a sound come rapping, tapping on my door

Hello, I’m happy to meet you
In your confidence is it safe?
Sit down I’m happy to greet you
To feed your greedy dog at the edge of the stage?
But before, before you slam the door
Tell me when, tell me why, tell me what this fucking life is for
We fly through this godless endeavor
We try to explain the black forever

I feel helpless and alone, trapped on the third stone

I feel permanently stoned, this godless endeavor the only cage I’ve known

Our organic equation has shown it’s flaw
Can we agree to disagree on the concept of god?
As I lifted up my brother he said to me
“Abandon naive realism, surrender thought in cold precision”

I feel empty and deranged, denied one last epiphany and ushered from the stage

Thou shalt not question, the role of science is not to eliminate god
As alternative gods multiply science stands accused of theocide
Consume, conform

The children sitting in the trees, they turn to laugh at me
They tell me that I’m insane, but in my mind I know I’m to blame
Alone within my lunacy, dementia fills the void within me
No testament, prayer or diseased lament can heal my wounds
They are so discontent

All the faithful fall onto their knees
And praise the priests of industrial disease

We contemplate oblivion as we resonate our dissonance
In godless random interpretation
The universe still expands, mankind still can’t understand
How to define you, so hide your face and watch us exterminate ourselves over you
Welcome to the end my friend, the sky has opened.

I bet Nightwish never done a song like this one.

Nightwish are a very good metal band.
I like the opera-style singing mixed with metal insturmentals.
