2. At the Drive-in
3. The Dead Kennedys
4. Amen
5. MC5

Ok, with my list, I'll stick to punk bands with punk members (as opposed to other styles of music spawned from punk, but with members and followers of different subcultural affiliations)

1. The Ramones
2. The Clash (pre-Sandanista!)
3. The Forgotten
4. 1977-1983 Misfits
5. The Unseen (yeah yeah sellouts or whatever)

That's depending on whether you believed punk died or simply evolved in the 1980s. Personally, I take the latter viewpoint.

Refused = punkcore (hardcore/punk)
At the Drive-in = emopunkcore

There you are, I just invented two new genres :)

Actually, there's already a record label named punkcore, so I'm not sure if that's a new invention.

I bought 'Kick Out The Jams' and i like it. Close to The Stooges, and i love them right now, but a lot more political. :)

Maybe you should investigate what nu-metal actually is. That would prevent you from making such ludicrou assertions.

ComradeJunichi

Ofcourse they are punk. I always thought the Beatles were a bit more punk than The Who, though.

Michael De Panama
11th December 2002, 03:10
Dude, punk rock started with the Ramones and the Stooges and such. There was no punk rock when the Beatles and the Who came out. The Beatles and the Who are pop. Plus, they don't sound a thing like punk.

What would you say is the definition of "punk"?

Earth Crisis may have punk rock ideals, but they are hardcore. They always have been hardcore. They just happen to also be politically/environmentally minded.

ComradeJunichi
11th December 2002, 03:38
Bah, I think I've posted my bands before. It was sarcasm.

kurt cobain
11th December 2002, 17:50
I think Who is PUNK.Or was. Maybe on their record they were pop but have you(Michael De Panama) ever heard their live sound? They were really LOUD and sound was very different than their record sound. That was punk. Listen their Live at Leeds or Live at Isle Of Wight. Sex Pistols liked Who very much and they have covered Who's Substitute so as Ramones. Ok maybe was not that punk as The Stooges,Ramones........... but it was not so pop as the Beatles. Who's guitarist Pete Townshend invaited power-chord and since that almost every heavy bands have used that. I think The Who punk and heavy before there was The Stooges or Black Sabbath. I hope you understand because im not so good in English.
And then listen Alice Cooper's old stuff. That's also a little bit punk.

Bullshit. Any punk fan knows the first punk bands were The Stooges and MC5. It was a good ten years before the Sex Pistols.

But the best punk bands are...The levelers

Are you joking??

Michael De Panama
14th December 2002, 01:43
God damn it. Why doesn't this forum have an emoticon of a little face rolling his eyes? That would be most usefull.

The Who is NOT punk. It may sound loud, and may have influenced punk bands, but it's not punk. Of course they aren't as pop as the Beatles. No band that has ever existed has ever been as pop as the Beatles. I think your definition of punk is a little off, man.

AK47, do you mean to tell me that the Ramones and the Stooges weren't punk or something?

ComradeJunichi
14th December 2002, 01:47
God, if you're talking to me...have you read my posts? Read the first post I made about my bands. I was being sarcastic about The Who being punk, I was making fun of whoever posted it. *rollseyes*

kurt cobain
14th December 2002, 08:53
Okay you win. I was wrong you were right. The Who is not punk but it has INFLUENCED many punk band such as Mc5 and Sex Pistols. I think that was my point on my top six but then i start to talk some blaa blaa blaa. I was stupid. The first punk band's were The Stooges and Mc5 NOT The Who.
AK47: If you think punk started with Sex Pistols and The Damned you are wrong(or are just joking). The Stooges and Mc5 started on 1969 or something and band like Sex pistols about 1976. In the late seventies the people just start to call that music punk. And what the hell Greenday, Hundred Reasons......(???) are doing on your list.
